Much like Disney World, Disneyland is home to some unique (and ICONIC!) restaurants.
If you head to Disney California Adventure, you can eat both giant AND teeny tiny foods at Pym Test Kitchen. Or maybe you want to eat in a Cars-inspired diner at Flo’s V-8 Cafe. One of the most unique eateries in Disneyland, though, could be Blue Bayou Restaurant because it lets you eat INSIDE an actual ride! But, those in search of the world-famous Monte Cristo (at least according to us) haven’t been able to visit the restaurant, as it was closed for refurbishment — until now!
The Pirates of the Caribbean attraction in Disneyland has been undergoing a massive refurbishment (including a revamp of the queue!) since the middle of March 2022. And, because the attraction passes through Blue Bayou Restaurant, the spot has also been closed during that time. But, as of June 3rd, the restaurant is open again and thanks to @studiolorien, we got to see what it’s like inside!
The main menu has remained mostly the same since we last stopped by to eat here. The only newer addition is the Hearts of Palm Escabeche under the “Introductions” (a.k.a. appetizer) section and the dessert selections are a bit more limited. Entree-wise, there aren’t any notable changes and you can still find things like the Chicken Gumbo and the famous Disneyland Monte Cristo.
Plus, if you’re visiting now, you’ll also be able to find the Heirloom Tomato & Watermelon Salad (which is made with Mascarpone Honey, Purple Radish, Herbed Vinaigrette and House Vinaigrette for $14) on the menu as a Featured Starter, along with a signature cocktail, the Hurricane. It is made with Bacardi Reserva Ocho Rum, Myers’s Original Dark Rum, Simply Orange Juice Passion Fruit Puree, Grenadine and Lime Juice, Luxardo Maraschino Cherry and Orange garnish and costs $16. We’ve tried this drink before!
A variety of other cocktails, as well as wine and beer, are also available.
Alcohol selections were introduced to the menu for the first time EVER last year and you’ll have A LOT of options nowadays, including the Mint Julep! You can get this refreshing cocktail with a souvenir glow cube for $8.50 or opt for it without the cube for $5.50.
Drinks are just more fun with glow cubes, right? 👏

And, arguably, no visit to Blue Bayou Restaurant is complete without the Monte Cristo. It is Battered and Fried Turkey, Ham and Swiss Sandwich with a Market Fruit Salad and Seasonal Preserves and costs $29.
Plus, to top your meal off there’s the Vanilla-Bourbon Creme Brulee! It costs $9 and features Pecan Cookie, Macerated Berries and Vanilla Bean Chantilly.
So, have we convinced you that it’s time to head back here to grab a bite? Just keep in mind that Blue Bayou is only accepting walk-ins for both lunch and dinner right now (reservations will become available once again at a later date). You can join the walk-up list at the podium or via the Disneyland app.
And, you’ll want to note that you won’t be seeing any Pirates of the Caribbean’s boats drifting by until June 30th when the ride officially reopens.
Can’t get on the list at Blue Bayou? Try and get a reservation at Cafe Orleans instead, located nearby in New Orleans Square. Cafe Orleans also serves the Monte Cristo and has a similar Louisiana-inspired menu.

Hello! Lately I have been seeing the Monte Cristo on the lunch AND dinner menu — but heard it was previously just on lunch menu. Can you confirm if this is a change that will be sticking around? We have plans to visit late August and have a dinner reservation already booked. Thanks for any clarification!!
