Between inflation, price increases, and other changes, you may find yourself spending way more on your Disney World trip in 2022 than ever before.
If you’re flying to the Most Magical Place on Earth, you’ll have to factor in those flight costs as well, and those could take up a BIG part of your budget. So, just how much should you set aside for those flight costs if you’re flying to Disney World in August? We’re crunching the numbers to find out!
Our Method
Each month we take a look at the average flight costs to Disney World using a specific method. If you’ve seen one of our previous posts, then you’re likely familiar with how we do things. If you’re new, welcome! Here’s a breakdown of what we do to crunch these numbers:
First, we look at the average cost to fly to Orlando International Airport (MCO) from a variety of airports within the U.S. on a limited number of airlines. We’d be here for a looooong time if we analyzed costs from every single airport throughout the U.S. or the world, so we’re keeping things abbreviated just to give you a general idea of costs. Note that the airline you use or the airport you fly from may not be included in this post.
Second, we only looked at a limited set of dates in August for this calculation. Specifically, we looked at a trip departing on Thursday, August 4th, and returning on Monday, August 8th. Based on flights from JFK/LGA to MCO, these dates seemed to be fairly average for the month.
Keep in mind that the price of your flight can vary a lot depending on what dates you’ll be traveling. Busy periods, holidays, special events, and other things can all factor into flight cost.
Here are a few other things to keep in mind:
- We used Google Flights to get our prices, except for Southwest Airlines (we used the Southwest Airlines website to get those).
- Costs can change daily or even within a matter of hours.
- We looked at basic ticket prices — There may be specific airline benefits or perks (like the inclusion of a checked bag, etc.) that would make a more expensive ticket worth it to you, so that’s something you’ll have to consider.
- For each flight, we looked at what would be the least expensive departing flight and least expensive returning flight. We then did the same thing but looked for the most expensive departing and most expensive returning flights.
- The prices you see here are just base ticket costs — Tickets may be more expensive and feature taxes, fees, or other costs when you actually go to book.
- The times of these flights, the number of layovers required, and other details might not work for you.
- For Southwest Airlines, we got prices for the “Wanna Get Away” tickets when possible.
- We tried to stick with flights that arrived on the same day as their departure.
- All prices are for 1 person.
Okay! Now that the housekeeping is done, let’s get into the number crunching.

The Average Cost
Overall, the average cost to fly to Orlando in August is $383.70 on the low end, and $990 on the high end. That’s significantly less than the numbers we saw for July and June. The numbers are much more in line with what we saw in May. That makes sense as August often marks the end of summer vacations for those in school. But August also marks the start of Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, so there could still be some pretty significant crowds in at least parts of the Most Magical Place on Earth.
Depending on how fuel prices change over the next several days/weeks, and a number of other factors, flight costs could change. Keep in mind that these are just averages, so the actual cost can vary when you go to book your trip. But hopefully these average prices give you a bit of an idea in terms of what to expect and what to budget for.
What Now?
So we’ve taken a look at the average flight costs…what now? Well, if the flights are right within the range of what you expected to pay, you may want to hop on those prices and book your flights. If they aren’t quite within your budget or you’re hoping that they will drop in price, be sure to check Google Flights or flight cost tracking websites to see whether they believe that flight costs are high, average, or low for your trip. That could help you decide whether to book right away or wait a bit longer.
