We’ve been following along carefully as EPCOT’s many construction projects continue. The expanded area in the France pavilion of World Showcase opened last year with the new Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure ride and a new restaurant! And we recently welcomed Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind to World Discovery. Now, let’s take a look at an ongoing project in World Nature.
Journey of Water — Inspired by Moana is a walk-through attraction coming to EPCOT’s World Nature. Disney has shared some concept art of this attraction, but today we’re heading into the park to see how construction is coming along! Come with us to see the current status of this project.
We’ve seen several pictures of what this attraction will look like when it’s finished. There will be waterfalls, rock formations, and plenty of lush greenery along the walkways. Disney has also said that some of the fountains will spit water over the pathways.
The attraction is pretty big, with various covered areas and ponds along the pathways. Imagineer Zach Riddley has shared that the idea behind Journey of Water is to celebrate the water cycle and teach guests more about the importance of this natural resource. He also said that guests will be able to “meet” and interact with water the same way Moana does in the movie!
So now that we know what Journey of Water — Inspired by Moana will look like when it’s finished, let’s see what it looks like NOW. You can get a great view of the construction by riding the EPCOT Monorail. On our visit today, we saw several rock formations coming together.
The one here looks like it could be the spitting fountains shown in the concept art. Do you see the resemblance?
There are several different areas where structures are being built at the moment. We spotted at least 3 different distinct rock structures, which may be connected by pathways when the attraction is finished.
Another rock formation currently taking shape that looks like it could be the waterfall with the symbol of the heart of Te Fiti, as shown in some other concept art released by Disney.
That front part (where the construction workers are sitting) looks similar in shape to the rock formation in this concept art. That might be a bit of a stretch, but we can see some similarities!
We spotted a lot of work being done throughout this area, with crews, machines, and fencing throughout the site.
We can’t wait to see Journey of Water — Inspired by Moana when it’s finished! Disney still hasn’t announced when the attraction will open, so we’ll continue to watch for more updates. In the meantime, EPCOT has plenty of other attractions, rides, and snacks to keep guests occupied.
Right now, the EPCOT Food & Wine Festival is going on, which means you can try snacks at 25+ marketplace booths around the park! We’ve reviewed EVERY booth and picked out the BEST eats, so be sure to check out our guides before you visit.
