There have been a lot of issues with air travel lately.
We’ve seen delays, cancelations, staffing shortages, and more. But, things could be changing soon, as several airlines have new deals to hopefully help with these kinds of issues. So, which airline is the MOST reliable, and which is the LEAST? We’re going to break it down!
We’re going to take a look at the most and least reliable airlines based off of on-time arrivals in May of 2022. All of the data is from the Air Travel Consumer Report from the Office of Aviation Consumer Protection. Note that a flight is considered to be “on-time” by this report if it operated less than 15 minutes after the scheduled time shown in the carriers’ Computerized Reservations Systems (CRS).
Most Reliable
The number 1 most reliable airline according to the report was Hawaiian Airlines, which had 86%Â of its arrivals be on time in May of 2022.
The number 2 spot went to SkyWest Airlines with 83.6% of on-time arrivals, and the number 3 spot goes to Horizon Air with 83.4% of on-time arrivals.
In 4th place, there’s Envoy Air at 81.5%, and in 5th is Endeavor Air with 81%.
It’s also important to note that Delta Air Lines was very close to being in the top 5 at 80.3% of flights coming in on time.

Least Reliable
According to the report, the airline with the most arrivals that weren’t on time was Frontier Airlines, which came in at the 17th spot. Only 64.6% of its arrivals were on time.
Second to last in the 16th spot was Allegiant Air at 66%, and third to last is a tie between the 15th and 14th spots — Republic Airways and Spirit Airlines, respectfully. Both airlines were at 68.8%.
Rounding out the bottom 5 is JetBlue Airways in the 13th spot with 69.4%.

Other Notable Airlines
So, where did the other popular airlines fall? Let’s take a look. Alaska Airlines came in 8th and 78.4%…
…Southwest Airlines was 9th at 76.8%…
…American Airlines was 10th at 76.6%…
…and United Airlines was 11th at 76.3%.
New Airline Deal Will Make it Easier to Fly Between the U.S. and Canada
Note that a lot of the bigger airlines are getting reports from more airports, with some having pretty significant differences. For example, while Hawaiian Airlines is number 1, they only had 22 airports report this data. Meanwhile, Delta Air Lines had 130 airports report, so with more airports comes more opportunities for late arrivals. SkyWest had the most airports reported at 243, so that number 2 spot is pretty impressive!
Now, keep in mind that this was just for May of 2022, and things continue to change in the air travel world. There have been more and more delays, as well as staffing shortages and cancelations. But, it’s still good info to know if you’re deciding between two different airlines!
