Every Single UPDATE and CHANGE That Disney Announced at the 2022 D23 Expo!

🚨 RED ALERT — Disney’s BIGGEST event of the year has officially started. 🚨 Not sure what we’re talking about? Well, grab your Minnie ears ’cause we’ve got TONS of details to share!

The D23 Expo has officially begun in Anaheim, California, and will take place over the next few days (through September 11th, 2022). During the Expo, Disney will debut new merchandise, reveal all kinds of updates about upcoming movies, and share some BIG updates about what’s coming to the Disney parks. Basically, if you want to know all the latest Disney news, you cannot miss this. We’re attending the Expo and sharing all the news with you LIVE, so what are you waiting for? Let’s dive in!

D23 Expo Basics

D23 Expo will be taking place from September 9th through the 11th, 2022, at the Anaheim Convention Center in California. The event is essentially Disney’s biggest event of the year, where all kinds of news will be revealed about upcoming projects, fans will get a first look at new video games, and more.

Tickets for the D23 Expo have already sold out, but that doesn’t mean you can’t watch some of the panels.

Okay, let’s talk about how to stay up to date with everything happening.

How to Watch From Home

D23 Expo [LIVE]  is your key to watching the Expo from home. Each day of the Expo, Disney will be streaming around 8 hours of content for Disney fans to watch from the comfort of their couches.

The Panels

There are a TON of panels that will be offered throughout the D23 Expo days. The whole Expo kicks off with the start of the Disney100 celebration (celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Walt Disney Company). There will be a special opening ceremony connected to the Disney Legends ceremony.

Some Broadway stars kicked things off!

Then, we got a look at some NEW Minnie and Mickey outfits!

And, some more friends showed up!

Then, some people with the honor of now being a Disney Legend, including Patrick Dempsey…

…Tracee Ellis Ross…

…and Kristen Bell.

Chadwick Boseman was also honored as a Disney Legend, and his brother accepted the award.

There will also be panels about the future projects of The Walt Disney Studios (including Walt Disney Animation, Pixar, and Disney Live Action).

And, we went to The Simpsons panel, where they were doing some live drawings of characters from the show.

We also found out that Season 33 of the show will be available on Disney+ on October 5th.

And, a new short called “Welcome to the Club” was released on Disney+ yesterday!

At the panel all about Disney Animation, Pixar, and Disney Live Action we got a look at the new Walt Disney Studios opening logo that will be featured before its upcoming films. It says “Disney 100: 100 Years of Wonder.”

If you’re a Marvel fan, there will be a few different presentations, including some where guests will learn how to draw Marvel heroes and villains or get the chance to discuss the history of Spider-Man.

And you won’t want to miss the Marvel and Lucasfilm joint presentation all about the future projects being worked on by both studios.

On Saturday, we visited the Lucasfilm, Marvel, and 20th Century panel where we were able to watch a performance of “Rogers the Musical,” seen previously in Hawkeye on Disney+.

We also checked out the Encanto panel where we saw some performances…

…the choreography process for “We Don’t Talk About Bruno”…

…and a look at the animation!

There will also be a presentation about Disney+, Disney Channel, and Disney Junior, a panel about the Disney parks, another panel about Disney, Marvel, and Lucasfilm games, and much more.

Big News

We got a media preview the night before the Expo officially started, and found out a TON of exciting news! Sunday also had the Disney Parks Panel and we learned a LOT of new things coming to the parks! Let’s get into it.

Splash Mountain Re-theme

As you probably already know, Splash Mountain at both Disney World and Disneyland are getting a re-theme to The Princess and the Frog and will be called Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. The re-themes should be completed by the end of 2024, and we’ve already seen some concept art, but we got a NEW look at what the ride will look like!

There’s a mini model of the ride at D23 Expo that shows what Tiana’s Bayou Adventure will look like when it’s finished.

So cool!

As you can see, there are a bunch of new details, like this water tower.

Which brings us to our next bit of news — there’s a new RESTAURANT coming called Tiana’s Palace!

Yep, just like the one from The Princess and the Frog. This will be a reimagined restaurant in Disneyland.

But, that’s not all, there will also be a new STORE in Disneyland’s New Orleans Square called Eudora’s Chic Boutique Featuring Tiana’s Gourmet Secrets! The backstory of this place is that it grew out of the big success of Tiana’s Palace and it will have a variety of accessories you can use to make and serve New Orleans-inspired cuisine.

The store will actually sell a BRAND NEW line of spices and sauces created by Tiana herself!

And, what’s really exciting is that this new store is opening up SO SOON — the official opening date is September 20th, 2022!

Mickey’s Toontown

Mickey’s Toontown in Disneyland is currently undergoing a makeover, and will be getting a bunch of new things like a ride and park areas. But, we just found out even more about what’s coming to the land! We got a first look at what Toontown will look like when it’s done!

Two new food options will be in Toontown — Good Boy! Grocers and Cafe Daisy.

Good Boy! Grocers is themed after Pluto and will be a grab and go spot, while Cafe Daisy has combined the previous 3 quick service spots into one new quick service location.

EPCOT Transformation

We’ve already got some news about what’s going on in EPCOT, too! We got a first look at the statue of Walt Disney that will be coming to World Celebration in the park.

The statue is called the “Walt the Dreamer” statue and will be installed at Dreamer’s Point in EPCOT.

We also got a look at a model of a beautiful Te Fiti that is inspiring the giant Te Fiti figure that will be a part of Journey of Water — Inspired by Moana!

This is just a model, but the actual Te Fiti will be about 16 feet tall in the park!

Avengers Campus

Another big piece of news we got was about Avengers Campus in Disney California Adventure park at Disneyland Resort. The land is getting an EXPANSION into the MULITVERSE! And, there will be a new RIDE!

News From A Boundless Future: Disney Parks, Experiences and Products

On Sunday morning, Disney gave us TONS of news for the Disney Parks, so let’s dive in! Josh D’Amaro started by announcing that the song Happily Ever After will come back to Disney World next year.

This will be part of an all new nighttime spectacular.

We already knew that Grogu and Din Djarin were coming to Disneyland but now we know when!

We can see this iconic duo in Galaxy’s Edge in mid-November.

Speaking of characters, a giant Hulk is coming to Avengers Campus in Disney California Adventure!

You won’t have to wait long — he’ll be in the parks next week.

Disney already touched on an expansion for Avengers Campus earlier in the weekend — now we know it is a way to bring the multiverse to the parks.

In the new attraction coming to the land, you will join the Avengers and fight King Thanos!

There is currently no timeline on this project, but we’ll be on the lookout for construction!

On top of the expansion, Disney California Adventure will reimagine Pacific Wharf into a Big Hero 6-themed land!

Baymax will be there too!

runDisney has been missing from Disneyland Resort since 2017 — but it’s coming back!

We’ve known about the Toontown reimagining for some time now, but we got a sneak peek at some concept art for the land!

Don’t worry — Donald’s boat is safe and there will be a Goofy play area.

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure isn’t set to open until 2024, but in the meantime we learned about the origins of the story…

…and got a performance from Tiana herself, Anika Noni Rose!

This is making us very excited for this ride to debut.

Moving on to EPCOT — the park is getting a brand new nighttime show next year!

Disney did not announce much about the show, but we’re eager to learn more.

We’ve been watching TRON Coaster construction in Magic Kingdom for years now, but we FINALLY have an opening timeline!

The coaster will open in spring of 2023.

On Disney Cruise Line, we got a name for the new ship — Disney Treasure.

This is the sixth ship in the Disney Cruise Line fleet.

Along with the existing Castaway Cay, Disney has a new private island called Lighthouse Point.

We got a special look at TONS of projects from the international Disney parks, including this Elsa animatronic!

We also learned about a new Walt and Mickey statue in Hong Kong, a Tangled ride at Disneyland Paris, and so much more.

Near the end of the panel, the Disney team started discussing potential projects at Disney World. First, they talked about the reimagining of DinoLand in Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

The land could be themed to Zootopia or Moana.

Disney also teased new Coco, Encanto, and villains-themed lands for Magic Kingdom!

None of these ideas are confirmed, but they are currently in talks with Imagineers.

Heading back to Disneyland, there will be two NEW nighttime spectaculars in the parks next year!

One is World of Color — One at Disney California Adventure and the fireworks show at Disneyland is called Wondrous Journeys.

Film and Television Announcements

You can spot that new Disney 100 logo in the trailer for Hocus Pocus 2 that has been shared!

And that’s not all! The first teaser trailer was also released for the live-action ‘The Little Mermaid’ film! You can watch the trailer HERE!

Disney also shared a special first look at the series Win or Lose coming to Disney+.

On top of that, we got a first look at the characters that will star in the Pixar film Elemental. This film is currently set to release on June 16th, 2023!

Inside Out 2 has also been confirmed for summer 2024. The film will follow Rylie as a teen and Amy Poehler will reprise her role. There will also be a few new emotions added to the mix!

Pixar also announced NEW MOVIE called ELIO!

Another series called Iwájú was announced as well. It’s a coming-of-age story that follows a girl who is a young heiress from a wealthy island and a poor boy from the mainland.

Disney also dropped the HUGE news that a new feature film called Wish will be released in 2023. This film seems stunning and the details look amazing. It’s one you’re not going to want to miss!

The cast of Willow appeared on stage to discuss the brand new Disney+ series coming to Disney+ on November 30th. They also released an all-new trailer — watch it here!

 

During the Lucasfilm panel, we learned the release date for season 2 of The Bad Batch — January 4th, 2023 on Disney+.

We also got to see a NEW trailer for Andor, a series coming to Disney+ on September 21st.

It was announced that the animated series Tales of the Jedi would be released on Disney+ in Fall 2022.

Jon Favreau appeared to talk about Ahsoka, the upcoming Disney+ series.

He also discussed season three of The Mandalorian, coming in 2023. In fact, a new trailer was released!

Harrison Ford talked about Indiana Jones 5, coming out in 2023.

There were several Marvel announcements made too, including Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly arriving on stage to discuss Ant-Man & The Wasp: Quantumania. MovieWeb reported that Randall Park was confirmed to appear as Jimmy Woo in the Ant-Man sequel.

We learned more about the Marvel series Secret Invasion, coming to Disney+ in 2023.

The first trailer of Secret Invasion was also released.

It was also announced that the first Halloween Marvel special, Werewolf by Night, would premiere on October 7th on Disney+.

The cast was introduced…

…and a trailer was released too!

The cast of Loki made an appearance to talk about season 2 of the Disney+ series.

Tom Hiddleston also shared some info about season two.

The trailer for Marvel’s upcoming series, ECHO, was shown exclusively to D23 Expo attendees.

Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio made an appearance to talk about the upcoming project Daredevil: Born Again.

They announced that Fantastic Four would be directed by Matt Shakman, who has also worked with WandaVision and Game of Thrones.

Captain America took the stage and it was announced that Tim Blake Nelson as Samuel Sterns, or “The Leader” from The Incredible Hulk, would be appearing in the Anthony Mackie-led Captain America: New World Order, as reported by CinemaBlend.

The cast of Marvel’s Thunderbolts project was revealed.

Cast members from The Marvels, including Brie Larson, Teyonnah Paris, and Iman Vellani appeared on stage.

And James Cameron introduced the cast of Avatar: The Way of Water, the long-awaited sequel to Avatar. 

And the National Geographic Disney+ series, Magic of Disney’s Animal Kingdom, will return for a second season.

National Treasure: Edge of History will premiere on December 14th, 2022. We got a first look with the cast…

…where they premiered a new trailer!

For the first time, the cast of the new Percy Jackson series on Disney+ joined together on stage!

We also got a sneak peek at the series — no release date yet!

The Santa Clauses will officially debut on November 16th, 2022!

We also got to see a brand new trailer for the 6 episode series.

The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder will have a season 2 on Disney+ in February of 2023!

The show Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur will premiere on February 10th.

Growing Up is now streaming on Disney+.

There are several exhibits throughout the Expo. First up, we stopped by to see Walt Disney’s original PLANE at the Mickey Mouse One: Walt’s Plane exhibit! It’s been restored and is on display for everyone to see.

Walt Disney’s Grumman Gulfstream I plane was also known as “The Mouse” and it traveled across the country to get to D23 Expo. D23, the Walt Disney Archives, and D23 Expo Platinum sponsor Amazon restored the exterior of this plane specifically for this exhibit.

The plane has a ton of history, and after D23 Expo, it will be moved to the Palm Springs Air Museum, where you can check it out there.
