Located on the island of Eleuthera in The Bahamas, the NEW Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point is NOW WELCOMING Disney Cruise Line passengers on select sailings!
Lookout Cay is the second Disney Cruise Line destination in The Bahamas, joining the existing Castaway Cay.
In May 2024, we attended a preview event for Lookout Cay, where the panel focused on the two shining stars of Lookout Cay: the stunning natural beauty and the strong influence of Bahamian culture.
It was noted that Castaway Cay and Lookout Cay are two destinations that ultimately complement each other. However, where Castaway Cay is a fictional place where voyagers became “castaways,” Lookout Cay is a real place, with real people and the opportunity to experience authentic culture.
Disney Cruise Line has worked with organizations and agencies in and around Eleuthera, like the National Junkanoo Committee, to immerse guests in Bahamian culture with a focus on the deep traditions and small communities of the Bahamas. Eleuthera embraces and harnesses the culture to bring guests an introduction to Junkanoo, “a Bahamian festival filled with joyous music and vibrant parades that will come to life in many ways across Disney Lookout Cay.”
Learning Your Way Around Lookout Cay
Mabrika Cove is the arrival point of Lookout Cay.
Disney has shared that, “‘Mabrika’ means ‘welcome’ in Taino, the language of the Lucayans, who are considered the indigenous people of The Bahamas.”
On the island, families will find all kinds of unique activities. Pink sand beaches and activities will lead them to discover the “magic of Bahamian storytelling alongside favorite Disney characters.”
Guests will find a family beach on the east side of the island, with recreation, and other amenities.
The nearby market-style dining spot is True-True Too BBQ, a seashell-inspired restaurant with shaded pavilion seating!
A Bahamian art and culture pavilion — The Goombay Cultural Center — is where you’ll find “special programs and local artists” providing fun learning opportunities to passengers! The Goombay Cultural Center is meant to “embody the essence of ‘Junkanoo,’ a Bahamian festival filled with joyous music and vibrant parades that will come to life in many ways across Disney Lookout Cay.”
Goombay is a music style in the Bahamas, and it involves singing, dancing, and drums. The colorful pavilion has an archway that is inspired by Junkanoo. Inside, guests can learn more about the traditions of The Bahamas and Junkanoo including the history, the music, the themes, and the costumes. While at the center, you will also be able to take part in activities like making crafts and learning to work with cardboard to make headpieces to wear to the Junkanoo celebration.
Additionally, Triton’s Trumpet Stage is a center for family entertainment. The name of the gazebo is inspired by both the king from The Little Mermaid and one of the natural wonders found on Bahamian beaches: “a large, spiraled seashell commonly called ‘Triton’s Trumpet.’”
There is also an interactive family water play area with slides, water drums, and more. Toddlers even have their own dedicated space.
Like Castaway Cay, Lookout Cay hosts its own adult-exclusive beach (north of the family area) by the name of Serenity Bay. It includes a dedicated dining area and six private cabanas available to reserve, and is exclusive to guests 18 years of age and older.
Kids ages 3 through 12 have their own themed Kids’ Club on the island where they can play under the supervision of Disney Cruise Line counselors. There is a splash pad area inspired by The Little Mermaid and a dedicated dining area.
Separate from the main family area, there is also a peaceful beach with 20 premium family cabanas available to rent (four of which are double cabanas for larger groups).
These double cabanas also offer massage services for a little extra pampering!
Other activities on the island include:
- a covered gaming pavilion;
- a volleyball court;
- a gaga ball pit;
- watercraft and bike rentals;
- nature trails that you can hike or bike;
- and a collection of NEW Port Adventures (island excursions)
Plus, Disney provides complimentary essentials like towels, chairs, and umbrellas, and a tram service to get you anywhere you’d like to visit on the island.
In fact, at one of the tram stops, you’ll find spots for hair braiding, merchandise, and more.

As Gaskins explains, “Many Rock Sound residents learned how to swim in this beautiful hole, which has a higher salt content that makes it more buoyant than seawater.”
Not too far from the Ocean Hole is Cathedral Cave, a massive natural rock structure that features “soaring, wide ceilings, cascading tree roots and glittering filtered sunlight.” Both the Cathedral Cave and the Ocean Hole are available to visit and offered as part of the port adventures offered to you as a Disney Cruise Line passenger.
Port Adventures can be booked 75 days before your sail date for first-time sailors, and even earlier for Castaway Club members. Disney Characters on Lookout Cay
Disney Characters have meet & greets on Lookout Cay, just like they do on the Disney Cruise Line ships! You can find favorite Pals by True-True Too BBQ at select times. (Those times should be listed in the free Disney Cruise Line Navigator app, or you can ask a Crew Member on the island.) Among the Disney pals spending the day with you on Lookout Cay are Mickey and Minnie, of course!
And they are donning NEW looks on Lookout Cay!
These outfits are specially designed by a Bahamian fashion designer named Theodore Elyett. Disney revealed that the outfits are inspired by the beauty of Theodore Elyett’s homeland. The designer has created looks for all kinds of high-profile clients, like Miss Universe contestants, celebrities, brides, and even government officials.
New outfits have also been created for Donald and Daisy Duck, Goofy, Pluto, and Chip ‘n’ Dale!
The outfits are part of a collection of colorful works of art by local creators, which can be seen throughout the new island destination.
When giving more details about the inspiration behind the design, Elyett said, “’Junkanoo Fun in the Sun’ is an exclusive line-up of all things Bahamian, celebrating the beauty of The Bahamas, all tailored to match the varying personalities of Mickey and his pals.”
Entertainment on Lookout Cay
The Fun in the Sun Beach Bash features a play area with a dance party alongside your favorite characters!
There is lots of family-friendly fun as you dance along to popular songs from films like The Goofy Movie and Chip ‘n’ Dale Rescue Rangers… all with a Junkanoo beat!

The sights and sounds are accompanied by vibrant colors, prints, pattern, textures presented with costumes and masks.

Shopping locations on the island include the First & Last Chance Stand and Disney T’ings.
These spots offer practical items for your beach day such as sunscreen, but you’ll also find Disney souvenirs for Lookout Cay.
This Loungefly Backpack, for instance, is a part of the Junkanoo-Inspired Collection.
This collection is inspired by the sights and sounds of Junkanoo, which is a Bahamian tradition with lots of colorful parades.
You can bring home a plush Mickey and Minnie Mouse in their new looks.
Theodore Elyett, an acclaimed Bahamian fashion designer, created these fabulous EARS!
He has developed a full clothing line, including both men’s and women’s apparel that will also be available on the island.

If you stop by the Treasures of Eleuthera, you can choose from authentic Bahamian wares made by local artisans. The shop serves to “spotlight Bahamian artists through an array of unique items.”
Some of the items feature a bit of a Disney twist!
Lookout Cay Sustainability
In terms of electricity, at least 90% of the location’s electricity needs are met by an “onsite solar array.” Plus, Disney has made sustainability a focus of its design by designing a pier that avoids the need for dredging, as well as elevated walkways that limit the impact on the island’s landscape.
Disney Parks Blog has shared the following: “Disney has committed to develop less than 20 percent of the property, supply 90 percent of the site’s power from solar energy, employ sustainable building practices, and donate more than 190 acres of privately owned land to the government. Environmental management programs have already been established and will continue throughout construction and into operation.”
