Disney World is always changing, growing, and evolving into something else, and that means there is almost always some kind of construction going on.
The Polynesian is such a beautiful resort
We’re still following the progress of the upcoming Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana attraction at EPCOT, as well as keeping an eye on when Splash Mountain in Magic Kingdom will close for its retheming. We’ve also been following along with the progress of the new DVC villas coming to Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, and now we’ve got some photos to share with you as part of the latest update. Let’s take a few minutes and see what this area looks like now.
The first update we have to share is what the construction site looked after Disney World reopened after Hurricane Ian came through Florida. Part of the site was flooded, as you can see in this photo.

However, most of that water disappeared this week, and we got a look at the progress being made. It looks like some concrete barriers have been put around certain areas.Â

We also saw quite a few vehicles on the site.

However, there are still little pools of standing water in areas of the construction site. We also saw something that seems to be some kind of pile of debris.

Overall, we’re seeing action taking place here but it seems like it still has a long way to go before it becomes the new DVC expansion it is meant to be. The villas haven’t yet taken shape, but it does look like construction work is progressing, although the water left behind by Hurricane Ian probably did affect some of that progress.

We’ve also got an update about Kona Cafe, which has been closed for refurbishment. Kona Cafe will reopen on November 1st with an “enhanced table-service experience.” Disney has not elaborated on what that “enhanced table-service experience” will involve, but we’ll be on the lookout for details. Reservations are now open.

The Polynesian resort looks to be a high end resort. So will it have a pool? The new resorts all seem to be high end money makers. Not surprised at all since they are looking to entice the affluent.
It is easy to figure out what the enhanced table service dining experience…. They will take the character actors from the new higher priced breakfast experience and move them over to Kona for a lunch experience, and them maybe back to O’hana for a dinner experience. Add about $20.00 to your table experience bill and Viola… you have a character enhanced dining experience for all times of day. When the new high rise opens, you can be sure that there will be an enhanced sit down lunch experience at O’hana making that restaurant full service all day just like the other on the pond resorts.
