There’s one thing you can count on when it comes to Disney World weather — expect the unexpected.
We’ve done our best to keep you prepared for rainy days, days when the parks are flooding, and hot weather. But one thing you may not be thinking about is cold weather. Now you may think, “DFB, does it REALLY get cold in Disney World?” Well, it might not snow (only SNOAP here), but we will answer that “yes, it DOES get cold in Disney World.”
In fact, Disney World is going through a cold snap right now and we woke up this morning to weather in the low 50s. In Florida, that’s COLD. But we’ve seen it at other times of the year, too — in January, we had record low temperatures (we’re talking in the 30s!), which came as quite a surprise to guests arriving in the parks in the mornings in t-shirts and shorts.
So what can you do to prepare for cold weather? Well, as they say, being forewarned is forearmed — don’t wait until you get to Disney World to check the weather. Weather models are good at predicting these cold snaps, even as much as a week out, but you can keep checking right up until the day before your trip.
Now all the checking in the world is not going to do you any good if you don’t pack cooler weather necessities. The best rule of thumb is to think about dressing in layers — things that you can easily take off and carry around when the weather warms up later in the day.
A chilly morning might even require a warm beanie (keep your ears warm, people), scarf, and even gloves! Don’t be ashamed to show up on a cold morning in winter gear — those guests in the shorts will envy you!
Of course, if you forget to bring clothes for cooler weather, Disney World will HAPPILY sell you an $85 sweatshirt or $150 coat. While they are available, this is likely a hefty chunk of change you weren’t planning to dish out. So planning ahead can really help you with that.
You’ll also find that when the temperatures drop in Disney World, shops will have that cold weather gear out where it’s more visible to get those hard-earned dollars from guests that didn’t plan ahead.
So never forget to plan for ANY kind of weather in Disney World, and don’t assume that it’s always going to be warm. You may even get stuck on a day when it’s cold AND rainy, and who wants to experience Disney World when they’re wet and freezing? A little extra planning will go a long way so you have the most comfortable — and warm — Disney World trip you can DESPITE the weather.
