There has been a lot going on for Disney in the past week.
On November 20th, Disney announced that Bob Iger was returning as CEO and Bob Chapek was stepping down from the role. Since then, we’ve looked at why this switch in CEOs was made, what changes that could come from Iger returning, and what Iger’s first steps should be. Now, Iger is holding a Town Hall meeting for Cast Members and we just got an update on the hiring freeze initially introduced by Bob Chapek.
Earlier in November, Bob Chapek released details about a hiring freeze. In a memo sent out to division leaders, Chapek announced that Disney would “institute a targeted hiring freeze.” This came after disappointing results in the Q4 earnings call.
“We are limiting headcount additions through a targeted hiring freeze. Hiring for the small subset of the most critical, business-driving positions will continue, but all other roles are on hold,” Chapek said. Job cuts are also part of the change — Chapek said, “We do anticipate some staff reductions as part of this review.”
Now, according to CNBC, there is no plan to stop the previously announced hiring freeze. This comment came after Iger jumped into taking questions, including from the in-person audience and any submitted before the meeting.

I am not encouraged by Bob Iger moves so far. He is continuing the job freeze which he personally may have originated when he was the CO. Iger has acted on LOW HANGING FRUIT like Park Reservations. Let’s get to the Meat and Potatoes of what Disney Guests want.
1. Bring Back The Free Fast Pass, three rides.
2. Eliminate the Genie Plus and the Paid Lightening Lane
Chrystie says
So he mentions the hiring freeze, does that include the layoffs? Not being in the room I’m not sure what was said but I hope maybe that part won’t happen.
Ronjon says
You would think that the hiring freeze and possible lay-offs would be at the excutive and upper managment levels sinc ethey are the ones who made things the way they are now by following Chapek down the path of destruction. You’d hope they are not talking about the park employee’s as they still seem to be understaffed.

Say what you want about Bob Chapek, Bob Iger is the one who turned Disney from family entertainment to the monstrosity we see today. Bob, you are not here to save the world, you are here to create family entertainment. You are the one who hired all of those from the woke crowd. They have no imagination and hate everything that Walt Disney built. You really believe the words of Kylo Ren ” Let the past die. Kill it if you have to.”
Angie says
Question for anyone who might know? Why does Free Fast Pass have to be off the table if they keep Genie+. Why can on property guests not get their three daily reservations and if they want more, buy more with Genie+ or lightning lanes?
Christine says
I completely agree with you Ron. Also get rid of this ridiculous park reservation system. It’s the only theme park in Florida that still has this!
Jesse says
Slow down Ron. What Disney fans want isn’t necessarily what is beneficial for the company. Iger just resumed his position. As someone who has worked in positions alike, I understand the move to maintain the freeze for now. Iger is making a discernible decision here. 4th quarter earnings could most definitely justify a hiring freeze. You have to look at what this freeze may help Disney do. I am an avid fan, Annual Passholder, and reg monthly visitor, what I as a fan may want to see changed, such as lightning lane gone, fast pass back, lower pricing in certain areas, and some other changes, that doesn’t mean I will knock Iger because in a few weeks he hasn’t made changes I want to see. Patience. It’s not a quick steer the ship right move. Even large seafaring vessels need miles to adjust their course. Give it time, let him navigate the Disney ‘situation’, let him way the options for course adjustments, then let him enact action plans to make those adjustments. In saying that, it may not be everything fans “want”. But doesn’t lose hope.
