A new menu has debuted at the Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater at Disney’s Hollywood Studios!
In case you haven’t been to Sci-Fi, it’s basically a giant indoor drive-in theater! The all-day menu (lunch and dinner) is served to guests dining in convertible car/tables (awesome!) while old clips of B-movies are shown on a giant screen. The sky twinkles with “stars,” and there’s even a “concession stand” (aka, the kitchen) at the back of the restaurant.
And we love when we get to share updates about the eats — so let’s take a look!
New Sci-Fi Dine-In Restaurant Menu
I love the addition of the Buffalo Popcorn Chicken, and I’m SUPER glad that the Picnic Burger was left on the menu! It’s monstrous, but well worth it! (You can read my review here!)
Here’s the full new menu! Scroll down to see what’s been removed and what’s been added!
Appetizer Updates
Buffalo Potato Skins have been substituted with Buffalo Popcorn Chicken, and the Traditional Caesar Salad knocked out the Mixed Green Salad.
The BLT Soup is gone but we can now munch on Fried Dill Pickles.
Entree Updates
Notably, the barbecued ribs are back on the menu!
Additional new entrees we look forward to trying are a New York Strip Steak and Vegetarian Sheppard’s Pie. Items no longer being served include the Rib-Eye Steak, Grilled Chicken Sandwich, and Double Bacon Cheeseburger.
Dessert Updates
For the grand finale, the Red Velvet Cheesecake has been substituted with an Out-Of-This-World Turtle Cheesecake!
Thanks to reader Steve Cline for sharing this fun news with us! Steve says the ribs were delicious!
We want to know your thoughts on the new menu! Do like the new additions? Will you miss any of the eats no longer being served? Tell us in the comments below!
Norma Reynolds says
We tried the buffalo popcorn chicken during our visit in January. It was our favorite part of the meal. Crispy fried chicken pieces in a tasty sauce without too much of a bite.
AJ says
Norma Reynolds — I can’t WAIT to try it!! 🙂
Tinkymurph says
Sounds like good changes, except for the red velvet cheesecake being gone! I loved that! But if the turtle cheesecake really is”OUT OF THIS WORLD”, that will be an ok change too!!
James D. says
As long as they keep the Reuben, I’m happy.
Katie says
I would love to go in there just for some apetizers and shakes. The buffalo popcorn chicken and the dill pickles sound really good.
Essie says
I’ve only eaten there once, but I would go back again (so many WDW restaurants, so little time 🙁 ). I’d like to try the Angus burger, Veggie Sheppard’s Pie and the turkey sandwich. I like burgers and a hot dog with kraut, but I’m not too sure about the picnic burger. The turtle cheesecake sounds wonderful! This really is a very fun place to eat. My friends and I were laughing our heads off over the old time movies!
Diane @ DixieJulep says
Ooh, I love friend pickles! That gets a thumbs-up from me!
I’m curious if the vegetarian shepherd’s pie will be anything like the one that used to be on the menu at Rose and Crown. I was sad when that one went away.
Lindsey says
We ate here last week. It was my husband and 3 year old sons first visit to the Diner. We had a great lunch and overall fantastic experience. It’s funny how quiet the restaurant is, it seemed like everyone, including us, was whispering!
My husband had the Picnic Burger, he had sweet potato fries instead of regular, and I the Rueben, both were quite tasty! Our waitress recommended the Chicken BLT, the Salmon BLT substituted with chicken. She said it was one of their best and most popular items on the menu.
Jennie says
Is that really new? So weird, that looks like the same menu from when we visited in October. My husband had the Buffalo chicken and I remember considering having the vegetarian shepherd’s pie (I de-carnivored the turkey sandwich instead).
Tricia says
Can the seats here handle larger folks?
Wendy Snelgrove says
I really liked the BLT soup.
Tricia, I’m big and have not had a problem. Most seating is in the “cars” but there are a few picnic table type tables at the back which would be a different configuration if the cars don’t work.
Becca says
The fried pickles are actually really good, we had them in January. It is both fried spears and fried sliced pickles. My husband had the ribs and they were really fatty, which is a problem when you can’t see your food that well. I actually got to have the red velvet cheesecake and the turtle cheesecake at the same meal when we went in September…the chef actually send out the turtle cheesecake for me to try. It’s a bit strange with a crispy rice crust, but so incredibly good. One of those things that sort of sneaks up on you as a craving…know what I mean?
Galloping Gourmand says
Sci-Fi has an undeserved bad reputations for it’s food. Sure it’s not great, but it features good to fair food in a unique environment. Price point has a lot to do with it. It’s high for what you get and the ambiance that accompanies it. If they had the same prices as the AMC at Downtown Disney people would be fine with the food.
I like the changes to the menu. The picnic burger, fried pickles, and ribs fit perfectly with the theme.
By the way, I have a special attachment to this place so I’m not unbiased in the slightest. My mom is an old sci-fi and horror movie fan. She saw all the old Castle, Hammer, and Godzilla films at drive-ins in CT. Then we would watch them together on UHF every rainy Saturday while I was growing up. We have eaten every single time we’ve been at the Studios. She can’t travel much any more, and her memory is in the early stages of deterioration. I haven’t eaten here since she stopped being able to join me.
Brenda says
I have always had good luck here for some reason. Some of the new look great! Fried Pickles! The Buffalo Bites. But I am rather sad for the loss of the BLT soup. As a Disney fan and Disney food fanatic I am used to change. (Sigh) We are going with change is good!
Janna says
Fried pickles may get us back!
I’m still mourning the loss (a year ago?) of the Black and Bleu Salad.
Logan says
I’m excited about the salmon sandwich! I don’t remember that the last time we were there…
Jaia says
Has anyone tried the Salmon BLT? I’d love to hear a review. It sounds delish….
Christa says
We have decided to eat here for the first time in June. I’m even more convinced now that I see buffalo chicken and fried pickles on the menu – two of my FAVORITE things!
EeyoreBFF says
We adore fried pickles! May have to make some up this weekend. So sad about the BLT soup. Wonder if we could find that somewhere else…But i am willing to trade skinny jeans for the picnic burger.
A Newton says
I used to get the BLT soup and a side of onion rings all the time. 🙁
Jasmine Becket-Griffith says
Cool!! Nice to see TWO meatless items on the menu! I’ve had the veggie burger countless times, so I’m gonna make a point to go try that Veg. Shepherd’s Pie. Yum!
Leo says
No more Corn Chowder with the Popcorn on top…why wasn’t I warned?!
Matthew Field says
im not seeing my strawberry shake on the menu….what is a solar flare shake? dont get me wrong, i can get a strawberry shake somewhere else at WDW, but theres something about the angus burger, fries and a strawberry shake that screams 1950s to me lol…
Kevin says
The Rib-eye was the worst steak I’ve ever had at WDW, so I’m glad it’s been subbed for the strip steak!
Kim says
I have to tell you, we were there almost 3 weeks ago and were truly disappointed in our experience. For starters we had a 4:40 ADR of which we showed up @ 20 minutes early for since that is what you are told to do when you make the ADR. The hostess told us we were checking in too early and nay needed to come 10 minutes before. We though we would get in with no problem then, but instead we waited for over 40 minutes for our pager to go off (not getting to our table until after 5). We expected the place to be packed with every table filled since they turned people away who didn’t have ADR’s, but that wasn’t the case at all. the place had plenty of empty tables! The waiter seemed bothered that we were in the meal plan and really seemed like fe didn’t want to work. I had the NY Strip Steak which was delicious and filling. My husband had the ribs which were good but didn’t fill him up, thankfully for him our one son didn’t eat all his dinner so he had some of his. I had an “Adult Milkshake”, I think it was the “Funky Monkey” or something like that. When I wanted a soda, the waiter was nowhere to be found after he took our order and the servers who brought our drinks and food left so quick we didn’t get a chance to ask. The waiter came back when we were almost done eating and was able to order on. He wanted our dessert order at that time too. My husband and I both ordered the Peanut Butter- Chocolate cake. We were highly disappointed with it. It was hard and dry not worth it! Sorry to vent, but I really wanted to tell others about our experience!

We visited this restaurant two weeks ago while at disney. The food was good but I don’t think I would eat there again–it was difficult to see the menu -I understand the concept of the drive in that it is supposed to be dark-but I couldn’t see the food either. Not something to write home about.
Glenn says
We had the fried pickles on our last trip in January. It was a combo of pickle spears and chips. The chips were great but the spears don’t fry up as well and take up 1/2 the order. Next time we’ll ask for pickle chips only.
Anastasia says
Do they still have coke that you can flavor with cherry or vanilla? I loved getting that, and it had free refills too! I hope it’s not gone, but I guess I could get a milkshake instead…
Mike says
Have eaten here many times and stopped going because the food was so so. Went last night because its my Daughters favorite place.
New menu was great! New York strip was big and cooked perfect and the rest had the chicken pasta and all raved at the flavor. I heard they are trying to up the food and they hit this one out of the park. Oh yeah, loks like they got a few new sci fi previews too so that was a plus!
Sandy Wolgemuth says
I’ve scheduled this as a 3:00 pm dessert or appetizer break from the sun for us! Can’t wait to go!!!
Marc Bowden says
Always loved this experience in previous years and tried to take dinner there one night while they were taking walk-ins. Unfortunately they “could not accommodate a party of our size” (three adults).
The party in line behind ours, four adults, was apparently a better fit.
I hadn’t been to Disney World since before the Dining Plans became commonplace, and on this visit our party did get a lot of – I can’t help but call it anything but ‘backhanded’ – treatment in quite a few of the locations, which was a bit of a surprise and made me wonder if it’s somehow connected?
Lenny says
We will definitely attend when a vegan option is added to the menu. Thanks.
