There’s one word that many Disney fans dread — refurbishment.
Many rides go under refurbishment throughout the year so that Disney can make sure that everything is in pristine condition for when guests ride. whether the closure is only for a few days or for a few months. Most of the time, ride refurbishments are quite short. But sometimes, they are quite lengthy, like the one happening with Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster in Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith is one of the most popular rides in Hollywood Studios with long wait times to prove it. But, as of February 20th, 2023, the coaster closed for refurbishment.
There is not an exact reopening date just yet, however we spoke with a Cast Member who said it would reopen sometime in the summer of 2023. That means the ride will be closed for at least a few months!
Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster has infamously broken down for several days in a row in the past, so hopefully this refurbishment will help with some of those technical difficulties. Back in July of 2022, a Cast Member told us that the ride hasn’t had a full refurbishment since the parks reopened in 2020 — this is likely the reason for the length of the refurb.
If you’re looking for other thrill rides in the park, consider checking out Tower of Terror right next door or Slinky Dog Dash for another coaster (even though this one is a bit tamer).
We’ll continue to keep you updated on all of the refurbishments in Disney World, so stay tuned to DFB!

Good thing we’ll be at HS on Feb 18th! I would have been really bummed if I had to miss Splash AND Rock N Roller Coaster
Phew!!

I’d like to see them re-theme it to the Iron Man/Avengers roller coaster like they did in Disneyland Paris.

We came over from Oz and were at HS in early December and the ride was down at least once every day (Tower was also down fairly regularly) – I think one day there were 5 rides down at the same time so was pretty much a waste of a day for us. A cast member told us Rock ‘N’ Roller Coaster had not had a refurbishment for approx 25 years so it is about time for the old girl. Here’s hoping the ride gets a proper touch of love and is back better than ever soon.

It’s overdue for refurbishment! We were there for a long weekend just before Thanksgiving and it was broken down for both days we were at HS. Bummer.
Kristin says
This is a dumb question but can anybody tell me exactly what a refurbishment entails? Is that just cleaning the areas and updating wiring and so forth for the ride? Or is it actually taking things out and replacing them with new things?

I hope they aren’t removing Aerosmith !!!!!
