Avatar: The Way of Water might have had an underwhelming opening weekend, but audiences are still heading to the theaters to see the sequel.
The film actually surpassed Top Gun: Maverick to become the highest-grossing film of 2022 worldwide.
Thanks in part to the success of The Way of Water, creator James Cameron is now revealing plans on a third film!
In the first two Avatar films we meet two clans of Na’vi that reside on Pandora: the forest-dwelling Omaticaya and the water-dwelling Metkayina. According to Variety, Cameron said he is already planning the next installment which will feature another Na’vi clan that isn’t as peaceful as the ones we’re familiar with.
It appears that he’s going with an elemental theme, revealing the next clan we will be introduced to will represent fire and are currently being referred to as the ‘Ash People.’ Cameron stated “I want to show the Na’vi from another angle because, so far, I have only shown their good sides.” He also said the first two films posed the Na’vi as the positive influence and humans a negative, and the plans for the third movie are to turn that notion on its head. Apparently this new clan might come with a fiery temper.
This time around, it looks like the Na’vi will be the antagonists while the humans are the protagonists — this movie will be opposite from the prior two films. We’ll also get to explore “new worlds” — we can’t wait!
While we don’t know any specifics about the storyline or even the official title of the film, production has concluded and Avatar 3 is scheduled to have its theatrical premiere on December 20th, 2024!

Now it’s just getting stupid. Where were these clans to help defend the planet in the previous movies?
If somebody was invading your planet don’t you think everybody would join forces to fight them? James Cameron is running out of ideas and just making it up as he goes. He had so many years to pull this together beautifully for sequels and he has dropped the ball as far as I’m concerned. Way of water was ridiculous with the navi talking pop culture, bro and cuz. Even saying bitch, I thought we were gonna see more of tribal traditions.
This movie will not be enjoyable 20 years from now, It is not timeless like the 1st one where this beautiful species was invented and presented to us and made the viewer curious to learn more.
The navi have been too humanized by our lead character.
It was disappointing that it wasn’t the other way around, where our lead character adopted more tradition and culture of the navi.

That’s the problem with Hollywood. They come up with a good storyline then beat it to death with 47 sequels!
