Three years after the debut of Disney’s exclusive streaming service, Disney+, we’ve seen quite a few changes including the additions of films and original TV shows, price increases, and ads.
Now, thanks to a partnership with a massive name in the movie industry, Disney+ subscribers can have a movie theater experience right at home!
Today Disney announced they are partnering with IMAX Corporation to bring a totally new movie viewing experience to at-home audiences. With new IMAX Enhanced technology, Disney+ subscribers can use select devices to watch films from the Marvel Cinematic Universe and more. This will include both improved sound and visual quality!
We already saw an expanded aspect ratio in November 2021, but this new launch will deliver up to 26% more picture across select films. Audiences can also enjoy IMAX-quality picture and sound with certified TVs from manufacturers like Sony and Hisense. IMAX Corporation Senior VP Vikram Arumilli stated they’re “thrilled to bring audiences an even greater cinematic experience in the home and beyond as we roll out the next phase of IMAX Enhanced on Disney+.”
Disney+ is the first streaming service to utilize IMAX Enhanced. Initially this technology will only be available on select films, including some Marvel titles, but we hope to see it expanded to the rest of their catalog.
The IMAX Enhanced technology will come to Disney+ some time this year. Stay tuned to our site for updates!
