Finding just the right snack can be quite the challenge sometimes because Disney has a LOT of options available — including some potentially CONTROVERSIAL ones!
Disney park guests have some favorite snacks that they tend to pick up most often when they’re in the parks, but where do you go when you’re looking for something just a little bit more unique than your typical Mickey ice cream bar? You know, that time when you’re not quite hungry enough for a meal but don’t want to have the same popcorn, DOLE Whip, or Mickey pretzel? The Pongu Lumpia may be your answer!
The Pongu Lumpia at Pongu Pongu in Animal Kingdom’s Pandora land is no stranger to us, as we’ve reviewed it before; however, it has a reputation as a controversial snack item. Guests seem really divided on this one and it’s split with a love/hate relationship with some Disney fans. It’s been on the menu for years (including being served exclusively as a breakfast item for a while) and it might just be the snack to track down to tide you over until lunchtime!
If you’re looking to get your hands on a Pongu Lumpia it’s located at a “blink and you just might miss it” type store front. Pandora is usually enjoyed by guests that are arriving early in the morning to experience attractions like Flight of Passage and Na’vi River Journey and they may get so caught up in the excitement that they find themselves looking around for the closest thing to eat.
We recently set out to update our review of the Pongu Lumpia and see if anything had changed with it. Traditionally, the Pongu Lumpia has been a spring roll stuffed with fluffy cream cheese and pineapple tidbits. We were glad to see that at least its appearance and contents hadn’t changed.
The flakey outside crust was toasted just enough to allow it to break easily, revealing the warm inside, without being burnt. The pineapple and cream cheese flavors complement each other well, and the combination didn’t seem to overpower either flavor, making just the right balance of sweet and juicy. Although the inside filling was warm, it wasn’t distracting or too hot to pop into our mouths from the time it was handed over to us, which we really appreciated– you can work up quite an appetite walking around Disney parks!
While we’re talking about walkability, we thought this was the perfect snack to keep you eating and trekking through your day. Cast members will wrap it in a thin paper wrapping so it was a great “on the go” snack option. The other side of that is that this was a snack that wouldn’t travel too well. This snack seems to be meant to eat in one sitting and while it’s not impossible to wrap it back up and take it with you in a bag, you may not want to do that because of the gooey filling. Additionally, guests that have allergies to cream cheese or pineapple will want to avoid this snack and opt for something different.
Some people don’t love the gooey texture or unique flavor, but if you’re an adventurous eater then you’ll want to give this one a go! If we’ve convinced you enough to try the Pongu Lumpia for yourself (breakfast or later in the day), you can pick up on on your next visit to Pandora at Pongu Pongu priced at a reasonable $3.79 plus tax.

I have not had one yet. But it sounds like a Blintz. That is a crepe filled with usually a cream cheese mixture. Sometimes with fruits.

I love it! The spring roll wrap is always crisp and sprinkled with sugar. I must say, though, I preferred when one serving was a pair of smaller ones before they changed years ago to the bigger single that is messier and not as tasty.

Thought it was going to be great! Was horrible! Everyone in my family agreed. We all love pineapple and cream cheese, but them together, like this, was not it 🙁

I LOVED these when they first came out , but it has changed. They are not as flaky as original and they used to be rolled in sugar. I still continue to get them, but not as good as when they first came out.
