Ahh Spring Break, the time when hoards of travelers flood Florida looking to get a little sun and relaxation!
During the months of March and April, Disney World and other Orlando theme parks tend to get pretty packed with all the out-of-town guests. And since the theme parks are crowded, you can expect the airport to be crowded as well!
The Orlando International Airport (MCO) released a list on Twitter of the dates that they expect the airport to be the busiest during the spring. These predicted statistics are based on a report that Spring Break is expected to jump by nearly a million passengers during the 2023 season.
Predicted Top Five Busiest Days:
1. Saturday, March 25 – 172,929
2. Saturday, March 18 – 172,833
3. Saturday, April 1 – 172,449
4. Saturday, March 11 – 171,959
5. Saturday, April 8 – 169,398Details: https://t.co/nyQn0bd1DF pic.twitter.com/GQmW2ajUsm

According to the list, the busiest days are likely to be March 25th, March 18th, April 1st, March 11th, and April 8th — in that order. All the days listed are Saturdays, considering it’s a particularly popular travel day. Attached to the tweet was a report with predictions for the busy season. It says the following: “Based on pre-spring break traffic numbers, MCO is prepared at any point during this window to set an all-time daily record for the number of passengers at Orlando International during a 24-hour period.”
“The current daily travel record at MCO is 90,804 departures set in March 2019, just prior to the start of the pandemic. However, recently records have been falling and four of the top ten busiest days in airport history were set in February of this year. The second busiest day ever at MCO was set last weekend with 89,863 departures.” Wow! We’ll definitely be interested to see if the airport breaks its previous record in 2023.
If you’re heading through MCO during the next few weeks, the airport has also shared a list of tips. They are as follows:
- Travelers should allow plenty of time to park, check baggage and go through security processing.
- Pack as lightly as possible.
- Do NOT pack firearms or weapons in your carry-on luggage.
- Print or download your boarding pass prior to arriving at the airport.
- Pack your patience.
