Although Disney World’s new ride, TRON Lightcycle / Run wasn’t scheduled to officially open until April 4th, Disney just announced the ride will actually have a soft opening SOON on March 20th.
The ride will NOT have a standby line, but will instead use a virtual queue system (like we’ve seen previously with other new rides), as well as be an Individual Lightning Lane (pay-per-ride) option. Now, one of those options is available to view in the My Disney Experience app.
Like with previous new rides at Disney World, the virtual queue is available during specific times of the day to guests FOR FREE. Guests have to be fast to access the virtual queue, though, and to be assigned a boarding group indicating what time they should get in line for the attraction.
The times to access the virtual queue for TRON Lightcycle / Run will be available at 7AM and 1PM. However, Disney World guests with access to Extended Evening Hours will also be able to try again at 6PM. Although the ride hasn’t technically opened yet, the virtual queue information for the soft opening is now on the My Disney Experience app (note that you won’t be able to sign up for the virtual queue until March 20th).
Guests are not guaranteed a boarding group even when using the virtual queue system, and it’s likely that the boarding groups will go FAST. So you’ll need to be quick to snag a free ride at the attraction. The other option is to pay for the Individual Lightning Lane, but again, we expect that option to sell out quickly, so you’ll have to be fast on the draw to nab that, too.
For those planning on riding the attraction, we’ve listed out EVERYTHING you need to know about the ride’s queue, the ride vehicles, the locker system, and more. We’ll continue to provide coverage on the ride’s soft opening AND its official opening, so stay tuned to DFB for more.

Nope. Looks way too uncomfortable. Even for 40 seconds! I love Flight of Passage, but hate those seats as well. Give me Guardian of the Galaxy any day.
