NEWS: Virtual Queue Will Be Used for TRON Merchandise in Magic Kingdom

It’s almost time! TRON Lightcycle / Run opens tomorrow.

We’ve already gotten to try some of the new TRON-inspired eats and got to see the canopy all lit up at night. But there’s still one element of this new attraction that we have yet to try and many have been anxiously awaiting — the Tomorrowland Launch Depot. The new store will have tons of new merch as well as the TRON Identity Program — but unfortunately, it won’t be opening to all guests along with the ride tomorrow. Fortunately, you won’t have to wait until it does open to get some of the new merch!

UPDATE: When we arrived at the new gift shop in Tomorrowland on April 4th, we found that there was NOT a virtual queue being used, potentially because there was not high demand to get into the store. It’s possible that a virtual queue will be utilized in the future if demand increases.

Today in Magic Kingdom, a Cast Member confirmed that although Tomorrowland Launch Depot won’t be fully open to all guests on April 4th (when the TRON coaster opens), those with a Virtual Queue or Lightning Lane for the ride would have access to the shop.

Other guests will be able to get some of the new merch from two other locations! Star Traders, located across from Tomorrowland Speedway, will be offering select merch for this new attraction.

We noticed that Cast Members have begun setting up the store in preparation for the sale of the new merch.

There will also be a separate pop-up shop across from the Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor entrance in Tomorrowland, where Stitch’s Great Escape used to be.

To manage demand for this new merchandise, there will be a Virtual Queue system set up for both of these shops. While the opening time for these Virtual Queues has not been confirmed, similar queues have opened at 7AM. So if you’re hoping to snag some new merch for the rides opening day, make sure you check the My Disney Experience app bright and early!

To use a Virtual Queue in Disney World, you’ll go to the My Disney Experience app and find the queue you want to join (they can generally be found on the homepage of the app. If you don’t see it, try using the search feature). You can reserve your spot, and you’ll be given a “boarding group” or callback number. When it’s your turn to go into the store, you will receive a notification that tells you how long you’ll have to return to the store. You can head there and start shopping!
