Round up your friends, grab a bag of trail mix, and lace up some hiking shoes; there’s a BIG update coming to the Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground. With SO many Disney World hotels to choose from, some people may forget about the good ole’ Fort Wilderness resort, but now there may be a new reason to check it out!
If you’re looking for an outdoorsy camping experience, Fort Wilderness might just be the place for you. Luckily, for those whose tent-assembling skills are lacking, there’s no need to fear! The cabins at Fort Wilderness are about to get an UPDATE!
Disney Vacation Club just announced its plan to redesign the cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground. The proposal calls for more than 350 refreshed cabins to replace the existing cabins at the resort.
Although the new cabins will be part of the Disney Vacation Club resort lineup, the proposed cabins will be open for reservations to all guests, including those who are not Disney Vacation Club Members.
So far, the concept art shows modern cabins “inspired by the resort’s idyllic setting, while also paying homage to the resort’s unique culture and heritage through the magic of Disney storytelling,” per Disney. The cabins will sleep up to six adults and feature a bedroom, bathroom, living room, full kitchen, and private patio. Disney noted that a select number of cabins will be dog-friendly.
Additionally, Disney hinted at some other updates around the resort, including an updated pool and walking trail enhancements as well as new dining experiences at Trail’s End Restaurant and Crockett’s Tavern.
As part of Disney’s Environmental Sustainability initiative, Disney stated that “the proposed cabins will be built with an eye toward the environment, utilizing the footprint of the existing cabins and taking advantage of more energy-efficient features.”
Currently, Disney expects the new Cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort to open in 2024. We’ll be sure to keep our eyes out for additional updates, so stay tuned for more Disney news!

Thanks for this post! We are frequent Cabin guests. Any word or thoughts on what the cost will be like? Most DVC locations are MUCH more expensive than the cabins are now. Also, any word/thoughts/guesses on whether a stay booked for late 2023/early 2024 will be impacted by this change? We’ve already booked, so hopefully WDTC will honor the rate for a cabin or comparable accommodation, but as nice as these look, I am a bit heartbroken. I suspect that we will be priced out of the cabins going forward, at least for the normal duration of our stays.

We stay in a Ft Wilderness cabin every Halloween. 2023 will be our 6th year. We love the different experience! I hope we will still be able to do so.

Do we need everything to have a “modern” flair? Iam kind of over it

I was hoping they would add a powder room as 6 people and one bathroom is difficult. Also they need a queen bed in the bedroom

Refreshed perhaps but not re-imagined. I’m sorry but those don’t look like cabins. Fort Wlderness was my husband’s and my go to resort. 😕

Great so tons of people will be priced out of these too. They are perfectly themed and adorable the way they are.

The cabins already have a bedroom, kitchen, deck, etc. so nothing new. Just another excuse for Disney to raise prices with a new title of DVC! We always go every Christmas & stay in a cabin, but not this year- we do not like the food trucks & they’re replacing Trails End with cheap self serve! They ruin everything I treasure! Goodbye Ft. Wilderness😢
