Disney just released a new round of menu items and we couldn’t hold ourselves back!
Disney is notorious for changing up meals and snacks for celebrations like during the 50th anniversary or offering seasonal items like this one for Halfway to Halloween. This latest celebration ushered in a whole new set of menu offerings just waiting to be explored and we just had to dig in!
Disney World is celebrating Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month all throughout May and with that has come some new menu options around several of the parks. We took the liberty to try a few in their first few debut days and we’ve got lots of thoughts around them! Let’s dig into the ones we tried!
Restaurantosaurus — Disney’s Animal Kingdom
First up, we tried the Spicy Asian Chicken Sandwich.
This new eat can be found in Disney’s Animal Kingdom at Restaurantosaurus in DinoLand USA. The meal is served with a side of either fries or a Cutie mandarin orange. It’s a crispy-fried chicken breast with Korean seasonings, house-made spicy pickles, and pickled red onions. This meal will cost you $11.59.
Overall it was a decent chicken sandwich and we really liked the Korean seasonings on the chicken. The pickled red onions and spicy pickles that topped the sandwich were flavorful and crisp and gave the sandwich a nice crunch when you bite into it. However, we had a really hard time keeping the toppings in the sandwich and there weren’t that many of them so that made it very easy for them to slide out. If chicken sandwiches and Korean seasonings don’t sound appealing to you, then this one you’ll want to pass on.
Nomad Lounge — Disney’s Animal Kingdom
Next up we tried the Bangkok Crispy Chicken Wings! This new offering can also be found in Animal Kingdom but at Nomad Lounge just outside of Tiffins Restaurant. This plate is a few crispy-fried wings tossed in a sweet and spicy fish sauce topped with peanuts and cilantro and is priced at $16.
If you have one big takeaway from these wings it’s that they NAILED the crispy part. The fish sauce that the wings were tossed in was thick and dark and had a similar taste to teriyaki. While the peanuts were chopped up and topped the wings along with the cilantro they were sparse and more for decoration rather than added flavor to the wings. This could have been a great shareable appetizer for a few people before moving on to another entree because we thought it was plenty for one person.
The chicken on the inside was delicious and well-cooked! The only trouble we really had with these wings? One word….crispy! The crispy texture was certainly this dish’s only flaw because we had trouble distinguishing what was crispy skin on the chicken and what was bone. It also gave a burnt flavoring without the fish sauce covering the outside. If you’re not big on chicken wings or sticky and sweet sauces, this will be one you’ll want to pass on.
Tamu Tamu Refreshments — Disney’s Animal Kingdom
We also tried a new sweet treat, the Pineapple Crisp Sundae. This can be picked up at Tamu Tamu Refreshments in Animal Kingdom. It’s a pineapple crisp cake topped with vanilla ice cream, pineapple caramel, and crispy streusel topping. This one is priced at $6.79.
This one really surprised us in a good way! The pineapple crisp cake was soft and warm, and the vanilla ice cream topped the cake with all of the toppings piled on it. When you took a bite of the streusel it was very crunchy and the pineapple caramel gave us a similar taste to the ‘Ohana bread pudding drizzle.
It was hard to be critical of this one because everything seemed to work for it but there were times when the streusel was just a little harder to bite into. We wouldn’t recommend this one though if you’re not a fan of pineapple, caramel, or vanilla cake.
Amorette’s Patisserie — Disney Springs
Switching locations we decided to try a few treats from Amorette’s Patisserie in Disney Springs. We picked up the 100th Anniversary Petit Cake and Ube Pianono for $24 and $9 respectively. The petit cake is made of vanilla chiffon with layers of berry mousse, berry compote, and cream cheese mousse topped with a celebratory Disney 100 medallion macaron. The ube pianono is made of ube roulade cake filled with banana-cinnamon mousse and ube buttercream. Let’s talk about the petit cake first.
The Mickey Mouse pendant on the cake was dark chocolate, so it wasn’t anything to write home about. The macaron on top tasted a bit stale and crunchy rather than the expected soft and chewy texture of macarons, but the cake itself was so moist and delicious! The flavors melded perfectly together with the berry compote really standing out.
There’s a strong raspberry flavor coming from the berry compote as well which mixes nicely with the vanilla cake. The cream cheese mousse is decadent and rich but the berries added a nice balance to it. The cream cheese kinda gets lost unless it’s intentionally eaten alone. Overall we think it’s the best petite cake we’ve had in a while even though it’s fairly simple flavors. If you’re not a cake fan and really looking for something sweet you will want to skip this one.
And the ube roll…
…WAS TO DIE FOR! The banana flavors came through so beautifully and reminded us of a peanut butter banana smoothie. There are little crispy pearls in the mousse that are almost salty which added an amazing balance to the sweet banana. The butter cream is light and cuts through the banana flavor a bit. We were blown away bit this addition and will definitely be back for another! If you’re not into banana flavor this one would be a total pass for you.
The Polite Pig — Disney Springs
We grabbed another savory option at Disney Springs from The Polite Pig. The Coconut Jerk Pork Sandwich is priced at $20 and is made with coconut jerk pork, pineapple slaw on a Hawaiian roll, and accompanied by their take on a Hawaiian macaroni salad.
When it came to the macaroni salad, we thought this one was REALLY good. It was light and not too heavy on the mayo. The veggies were crisp which added a nice crunch and the chunks of bacon were very flavorful.
For the actual sandwich though, this was a BIG ONE! The meat was very tender, juicy, and flavorful with a bit of spice to it. The coleslaw added a really nice crunch and relief from the semi-spicy pork. The Hawaiian buns were so soft and sweet but the bottom bun was pretty soggy from the meat. The grilled pineapple also had spice seasoning and it’s VERY smoky which is really different.
We struggled taking bites of this one because of its massive size so if you’re not a fan of smoky packed sandwiches this may not be the right one for you. We also felt like they could have scaled back on the dried parsley in the macaroni salad, but we would totally have eaten it again because it was tasty and simple.
Capt. Cook’s — Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort
We also hopped over to the Disney resorts to try the Korean Fried Chicken Bowl with Cucumber Namasu. This dish can be found at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort in their Capt. Cook’s quick service restaurant. It’s priced at $15.49 and is made of double-fried chicken thighs tossed with Gochujang Sauce, sesame seeds, green onions, and pickled cucumber.
The chicken was very crispy which we liked because sometimes sauce can make the breading soggy. The gochujang had a sweet flavor to start and then the heat kicked in after. We thought this one was pretty good compared to other gochujang chicken we’ve had. The cucumbers were tangy and sour, which is nice and refreshing after the hot chicken.
This chicken has some HEAT. This could be great if you like that, but don’t order this if you’re not prepared for it. The rice doesn’t offer much reprieve from the heat because it’s pretty much coated in sauce. It’s all good…just spicy.
We also wished there was an additional element besides just the chicken and rice to cool the spice because the cucumber slices were so tiny. We wouldn’t recommend this one to those that are spice-averse, those who want more than just chicken and rice, and maybe those that are budget conscious — it was really pricey for a quick service entree.
Pineapple Lanai — Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort
After all that spice we need something to cool off with so we decided to pick up the Heart of Te Fiti Mochi Dole Whip Cup. This one can be found at Pineapple Lanai at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort too and is priced at $6.29. This is made of pineapple Dole Whip with mochi cake, a Moana-inspired white chocolate decoration, and an edible flower.
There’s a new Dole Whip at Pineapple Lanai…and it’s got MOCHI in it!!! 🍦

I think it goes without saying but you really gotta like Dole Whip for this one to work for you. The pineapple was tropical and fun and refreshing. The mochi was semi-sweet and went well with the rest of the flavors. The presentation was pretty and the edible flower was crunchy and tasted like lettuce, while the Moana decor was a simple white chocolate garnishment.
Here’s what we weren’t crazy about with this one: The mochi texture and flavor can be unusual if you haven’t had it before. It’s not the same consistency as a regular cake, it’s very chewy, but we know it could really boil down to personal preference.
We would tell you to pass on this one if you don’t like mochi or chewy add-ins to your Dole Whip.
Hurricane Hanna’s Waterside Bar and Grill — Disney’s Beach Club Resort
Next up, we tried a unique drink called the Pad Thai Fizz, priced at $14.50. Disney describes this as being ” inspired by the traditional flavors of pad Thai.” The cocktail is made of Skrewball Peanut Butter Whiskey, Fever Tree Ginger Beer, thai basil, and lime. It’s available now through May 30th at various pool bars, table service restaurants, and lounges. We grabbed it at Hurricane Hannah’s at the Beach Club.
If you like ginger beer and basil, this drink will be AMAZING for you. The ginger beer flavor is really strong but can be overpowering. We couldn’t taste the peanut butter whiskey at all because the ginger beer was just so powerful.
The drink doesn’t taste at all like pad Thai or really even peanuts, despite its name, so keep that in mind. We could see this one really being divisive because the ginger beer is essentially all you taste. Don’t even consider tasting it if ginger beer isn’t something you love!
Overall we’re pretty divided on these limited-time offerings. Most of the eats and treats were favorable but there were a few we think you could totally pass on for now. We report on Disney food news in the parks and resorts constantly, so for the latest info, stay tuned to DFB!

OK — I didn’t get it — what were the 3 items that were NOT worth it ? Seemed to me your bottom line of all of the items was some people might like it and some people might not.

JimO: no hate to them cause I get that this is how they make their bag, but basically all their post titles are clickbait/SEO optimized lol. I wouldn’t think too hard about it, they’re just trying to find a way to make the title sound more interesting or controversial so people will click through.
