Fun news from the Walt Disney World Monstrous Summer event this week!
New dining and entertainment options are being introduced to the Disney Magic Cruise Ship during a dry dock refub, which will take place in Spain this Fall 2013! We’re super excited about a special surprise that we mention at the bottom of this post!
The Magic was launched in 1998 with the latest in technology and imagineering at the time. But since the Disney Dream and Fantasy have taken to the seas, Disney’s decided it’s time to do some upgrades on the oldest ship! Let’s take a look…
Re-Imagined Dining on the Disney Magic
We love that the dining and restaurants on the ship will get a refresher!
NEW! Carioca’s
The Brazilian-themed Carioca’s will replace Parrot Cay on the Magic, and will bring an energetic atmosphere reminiscent of Rio de Janiero.
Adding to the dining experience, the concept will change from day to night with vibrant colors. Savor the Latin-infused flavors from the menu during day time buffet meals and table-service dinners.
At night, windows will reveal “city” scapes and flickering lanterns will illuminate the room.
Animator’s Palate
The ever-popular Animator’s Palate will get a slight makeover bringing in new technology (larger, high-def flat screens). The “Drawn to the Magic” black-and-white-to-color show will continue throughout the meal, but new friends like Rapunzel from “Tangled” and Remy from “Ratatouille” will join the ranks of Disney characters represented.
The popular “animation magic” show from the Fantasy will be added here as well — where guests draw their own characters that come to life on the screens!
New! Cabanas
Many guests rely on the come-as-you-are Topsider Buffet on the Magic for casual eats during the day. During the Magic’s refurbishment, this restaurant will be upgraded and expanded into Cabanas! This casual spot will be treated with an Australian and Finding Nemo theme, similar to the atmosphere found on the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy ships.
More inside space is being added, increasing the total square-footage of air-conditioned area by nearly 3,400 square feet to more than 9,460 square feet and a total of 455 seats.
The beach umbrellas and teak furniture will give a “down under” relaxing vibe to this buffet (by day) and table service (by night) venue.
Palo
The adults-only Italian restaurant, Palo, will also receive a makeover in dry dock! New fixtures, glass artwork, and new stone floors will be accented by red and white striped poles reminiscent of those found throughout the canals in Venice!
Newly-Themed Adult’s Only “After Hours” Entertainment Venue
The adults-only entertainment venue, Beat Street, will be transformed into a new nighttime district called “After Hours”.
Within “After Hours” will be the new Keys piano bar, Fathoms night club, and O’Gills Pub, which will be familiar to guests who’ve sailed aboard the Disney Fantasy.
Keys Piano Bar
Keys will feature a calm, relaxed atmosphere where guests can enjoy live piano music!
Fathoms Nightclub
A brand new Nightclub will take the scene on the Magic! Fathoms is themed after the sea itself, and special effects, lighting, and sound will create different atmospheres from early evening to night.
O’Gills Pub
This night spot has been very popular on the Disney Fantasy cruise ship, and we know guests will love the homey charm of this Irish pub! Expect great beers and great company here!
Here’s a fun video that describes it all!
More Fun Disney Magic on the Magic…
For future sailors, Disney Magic’s dry dock schedule has not been released yet; but there’s lots more coming to the ship besides just dining!
We’re particularly excited about the AquaDUNK water slide! This new addition will allow daredevil water slide fans to climb into a capsule and have the bottom literally drop out from under them as they plunge to the ride of their lives!
Whew — there’s gonna be so much added to the Magic, it may be time to start thinking about another Disney cruise, eh?
What do you think of the enhancements planned for the Disney Magic? Tell us in the comments below

We just changed out trip on the Fantasy to a 1 Bedroom Concierge Suite on the Magic! I love the intimacy of the ship and I think the upgrades make is better than the Dream and just as good as the Fantasy! There are only two things I will miss from the Fantasy and the Dream Skyline and Remy 🙁 but Keys Piano Bar and Carioca’s both look like they are amazing!!! I CANNOT WAIT FOR MY TRIP ON THE MAGIC!!!

See, I didn’t like cabanas being so big becaus I always got lost. I am kind of annoyed that there will be so many changes, especially where they are changing beat street into something else. I liked it the way it is!! If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!! Personally, I did not like the dream or fantasy as much as I like the magic and wonder However, I do think think that getting rid of parrot cay was a good idea, I think cariocas is a great idea, named after Jose Carioca from the three caballeros. I hope the food will be better than the food at parrot cay.
