Orlando is known to have some pretty severe weather in the summers, with thunderstorms popping up and disappearing again within a matter of minutes. Right now, however, those storms are affecting the Orlando International Airport.
If you’re flying in or out of Orlando today, this may affect your travel plans.
According to the FAA’s National Airspace System Status website, the Orlando International Airport is currently experiencing a ground stop.
A ground stop is an order issued by the Federal Aviation Administration. For Orlando right now, it means that all departures to Orlando International are grounded due to thunderstorms.
You may experience delays in your flight plans due to this event. The current ground stop is expected to end at 4:15EST.
UPDATE: The ground stop at the Orlando Airport has been lifted. Right now, the FAA website says there is a “departure delay,” with departures from the airport delayed an average of 15 minutes.
