It’s September, and many of you are probably holding on to the remnants of summer — dreading those 5PM sunsets and impending cold fronts.
One of the best things about central Florida is that summer never truly ends. The sun might set a bit earlier each day and we might be greeted each early morning and late evening with a nip in the air, but around midday, you’ll still catch us by the pool or in the parks with a refreshing treat. One thing that reminds us of relaxing summer days is LEMON! Lemonade, iced tea with lemon, lemon-glazed treats, you name it. Gideon’s Bakehouse in Disney Springs seems to be at least partially on board with the whole endless summer thing, as one of the September menu highlights is allllll about lemon. Today, we’re taking you along with us to review a lemony treat.
Gideon’s Bakehouse refreshes their menu each month with seasonal flavors. Throughout the month of September, one cookie option available for grabs is the Lemon Poppy Crumb Cookie — also known as Bonnie’s Cookie. You can grab one for $6!
It’s a soft lemon poppyseed cookie that’s filled with (you guessed it) poppyseeds and pockets of white chocolate. It’s then topped with lemon butter crumbs and a thin sugar glaze. We’ve had a version of this cookie in the past, but it was filled with cream cheese icing and topped with the white chocolate that you will now find throughout the cookie. Gideon’s did say that this was an updated version of the same cookie, so we’re excited to see how this one measures up since we REALLY liked the last one.
Our first impression of this cookie was the same impression we get each time we grab a Gideon’s cookie. It’s BIG. It’s nice and soft — very moist. While the lemon flavor is definitely there, the flavor is mild and doesn’t overpower the treat itself.

It isn’t too sweet, either. We actually found that it leaned more toward the savory side, with all the butter used in the crumbs. However, the white chocolate spread throughout the cookie balanced this well, and gave it more of a creamy texture on the inside.
The butter does make the cookie a bit messy, especially with the Florida heat. (Remember? Endless summer, blah, blah, blah.) You can’t really save it for later — it’ll melt!
So… should you head to Gideon’s Bakehouse to grab the Lemon Poppy Crumb Cookie? Well, one thing we appreciated about this cookie is that even someone who doesn’t absolutely love lemon desserts could still appreciate this cookie. Even if you don’t typically reach for lemon-flavored treats, we’d recommend giving this one a go. If you love a thick, soft cookie that isn’t overwhelmingly sweet, then this one won’t disappoint you. The only thing that we could envision bothering folks is the amount of butter used.
