Woo!! After a lengthy renovation, the Lava Lounge recently opened in the Rainforest Café in Disney World! Here’s another great “no-reservation-needed” location to pick up a full meal in the World…
Lava Lounge
The big draw here is the possibility of having NO wait to dine. While it’s truly a jungle in the dining room, the Lava Lounge is equally appealing.
With waterfront views, a quieter ambiance, and a family-friendly atmosphere, it’s a place for the whole family to unwind outdoors. In fact, it might just be the place for your family if you have kids that are timid about the simulated thunderstorms and loud animals inside the dining room.
Of course, your crew will have to be somewhat adventurous as you’ll hear the volcanic “eruptions” that take place each evening.
Recent exterior renovations added an erupting volcano that puts on a mighty display in sync with a light and sound show. Don’t be surprised if your kids ask to dine here while wandering Downtown Disney! And without a reservation, you now know to head to the Lava Lounge!
Eats
And we love that not only can you order from the full restaurant menu, but the Lava Lounge also has some exclusive menu items! We can’t wait to try the Volcanic Sliders or Tectonic Tacos. And the Jungle Runner is one of the more popular adult beverages!
We already know that a meal at the Rainforest Café is made more memorable when ordering the Sparkling Volcano for dessert. (Seriously — this thing is awesome! You can see our review here.)
Large enough to share with the whole family, this delicious brownie concoction is worth the extra cost!
Have you dined at the Lava Lounge? What do you think of the new volcano show? Let us know in the comments below!

First of all this is just a continuation of the great food oriented news of the last couple of years. Kudos to WDW for the ongoing improvement, expansion and detailed attention to it’s food and beverage offerings. While I miss some of the ambiance and restaurants of WDW from thirty years ago, you cannot deny the enlarged scope of the choices available.
My question; Is this a lounge centering on drinks with food available, or is it more of a restaurant within a restaurant? Can you sit there on a hot evening just having drinks without ordering food? I feel the whole DTD complex could use more of those. Maybe that is coming.

We had dinner there 2 weeks ago and it was great! We even got to see a little of the Illuminations show over the trees. There is a bar area along with the table area. Since this was an adult only trip we didn’t rush through dinner and we relaxed after dinner with a few drinks and no one rushed us. We’d definitely try it again. My fear is that the word will get out about it and then it’ll be impossible to get a table.

It sounds great! Nice to know about the no reservation aspect as well. The whole 180 day ADR thing can really wear you out after awhile.
