When you decide to stay on property at Walt Disney World, there are a lot of options to choose from — over 20, actually!
There are three tiers of hotels — value, moderate, and deluxe. The higher the tier, the more amenities you’ll have at your resort and the “fancier” the hotel will be. We love all the hotels for different reasons, but we also dislike many aspects of each one. However, this is one Disney World hotel we will NEVER stop going to!
Port Orleans French Quarter is a moderate hotel located closest to EPCOT. There are many reasons we love this resort, so let’s dive right in!
Atmosphere and Theming
This hotel is themed to the real-life New Orleans, Louisiana during Mardi Gras celebrations. This is an iconic area of the country that is known for many reasons — its food, Mardi Gras parties, and so much more.
While you won’t find much “Disney” theming around the resort, it may remind you of The Princess and The Frog, as Tiana is from New Orleans (and if you stay at Port Orleans Riverside, you will find more of that theming). You may find yourself feeling celebratory like you’re really in the midst of a Mardi Gras celebration in the heart of New Orleans.
Now, if you like a lot of Disney theming in your resort, this may not be for you, but we know many guests prefer to have their hotel less themed to Disney IP since the rest of their vacation will be surrounded by it.
The Food
Did we mention New Orleans is known for its cuisine? Port Orleans French Quarter doesn’t disappoint on this factor either — there are lots of different restaurants to please everyone’s palettes.
Here are the dining options you can expect to find around this hotel:
- Sassagoula Floatworks and Food Factory(known for classic chicken fingers and burgers, as well as Po’ Boy sandwiches, Jambalaya, Shrimp & Grits, and more)
- Scat Cat’s Club Cafe (one word: BEIGNETS!)
- Scat Cat’s Club Lounge (listen to live jazz music while you dine)
- Mardi Grogs Pool Bar (enjoy drinks by the pool)
Does it have as many options as a deluxe resort? No, but it has more than value resorts, and more interesting options at that too!
It’s A Smaller Resort
We also love that French Quarter is much smaller than Port Orleans Riverside, the other side of the hotel. This means, yes, that the hotel books up faster since there are fewer rooms, but the quality of the rooms and amenities doesn’t suffer due to the smaller size of the resort.
If anything, sometimes we prefer the smaller hotels. They’re easier to get around, you don’t have to stop at multiple bus stops before you get where you’re going — there’s only one central bus stop.
It can also make it easier for those with mobility issues to get around. While there are elevators located in many of the buildings, you can still request to be on the bottom floor if you’d like.
Fancy Lodgings At A Lower Price
Many guests feel the rooms and amenities here are on par with deluxe hotels, and all for a cheaper price tag!
You’re paying less for just as great of an experience. Yes, you won’t be able to walk to any parks like some of the deluxe resorts, but you do have more than one transportation method to travel, great food options, comfortable rooms, and more that will certainly have you feeling like you splurged on your vacation.
There are plenty of pros and cons to all the different hotels in Disney World, and we’re here to help walk you through which hotels are the best to stay at for your next vacation, so stay tuned to DFB for all the latest Disney news, tips, and tricks!
