Every so often, we see rides shut down temporarily in Disney World.
Rides can stop for many reasons. In EPCOT you’ll see Test Track close any time a cloud comes near it (not really, but sometimes it feels like it!). Space Mountain seems to have technical difficulties quite often, and sometimes things just happen that cause you to get stuck on the ride and we may never know why. The other day a friend of ours was over in Magic Kingdom when this happened to them!
Magic Kingdom has lots of rides for people of all ages. It has many beloved, classic rides that we all know and love. You don’t even have to go to Disney World to know their names and songs.
One of those famous Magic Kingdom rides is Pirates of the Caribbean. This slow-moving boat ride has been around almost since the beginning of Magic Kingdom and is loved by many who ride it. Well, the other day our friend, Kim, was riding Pirates of the Caribbean when something mysterious happened that caused them to get STUCK on the ride!
When a ride gets stuck, you may be sitting in the same spot on the ride for a while. Ride vehicles can pile up and you’ll probably get whatever part of the song their singing stuck in your head. It could be a short stop or take several minutes for the ride to continue moving. Of course, Disney asks that you remain seated and wait patiently for the ride to go again.
In this case, the lights came on and people who were stuck got to see the set in more detail.
If it takes too long to fix the problem, Cast Members may escort you off the ride and you get to go behind the scenes. Luckily, that didn’t happen to Kim. Eventually, the boats did start moving like normal. But we’re guessing she was singing the Pirates song the rest of the day!
You never know what can happen while you’re in Disney World, but things like this happen all the time so it’s generally nothing to worry about.

I got stuck on Pirates once… they had to turn the lights on in the area where I was, a boat got stuck on the waterfall drop next to the sandy beach with the pirate skeleton. Did not evacuate, but cast members came out to push the boat off of the rollers, and down the waterfall it went. We were back on our way.

We also got stuck on the Pirates ride once. It was kinda bad because we were where the pirates are fighting. Generally, the canonball spashes are timed such that the splashes are not next to a boat. However, when we were stuck, folks in our boat got wet! We all moved over to keep them from getting soaked.
Also, the boats started moving backwards! Eventually, the boat in front of us backed to where we where and they entered the “splash zone.”
It was a fun experience and simply adds good memories for that particular ride/attraction.
