Welcome, DFB readers, to one of the most exciting nights of the holiday season — the first night of Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party!
We’re live tonight experiencing everything there is to see and do at this after-hours event — the entertainment, the merchandise, and especially the food. There are so many new snacks to try, and we headed over to The Friar’s Nook to try the FOUR special holiday treats they have!
If you’re headed to Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party this year, be sure to check out all of our reviews and advice for the event as well as our special merch, which you can shop by clicking below!
Alright, alright. Back to the food! All four of these NEW snacks are ONLY available during the Christmas Party, so you’ll need to prioritize them towards the beginning of the night so they don’t sell out. These snacks are the Holiday Ham Fried Pie for $9.99, Italian Beef Tots for $11.49, Peppermint Snowman for $6.49, and Winter Milk Shake for $8.49.
First up, we grabbed the new Holiday Ham Fried Pie. This is a flaky pastry filled with baked ham, candied sweet potatoes, and spiced pecans served with pineapple glaze.
What we weren’t expecting from this snack was how SWEET it is. If you love ham and sweet pineapple, you’ll love it. However, we feel a bit conflicted about it. At first bite, we loved that sweet and salty combination. Then, we’d have another bite and get the ick. Multiple reporters on our team felt this way about it. It’s worth a try for sure, but we probably won’t be getting it again.
We also tried the Italian Beef Tots, which are tots covered in slow-cooked beef, cheese curds, zesty giardiniera, and pot roast gravy.
These are SO good. The tots are perfectly cooked to a crispy, golden brown and are topped with tender, savory beef. Plus, there’s a LOT of it, so you’re getting some bang for your buck for sure. It tasted like if a pot roast was put one tater tots. What we didn’t expect was the nice bit of kick to the dish. It was SPICY. The green peppers in the giardiniera added that spice ad a bit of tanginess. AS far as the cheese curds, they were dense, chewy, and added more texture.
Moving on to dessert, we tried the Peppermint Snowman, which is a chocolate brownie topped with cookies ‘n cream peppermint mousse.
WE LOVED THIS. If you love mint and chocolate, this is for you. It tasted exactly like an Andes mint, but in brownie/mousse form. The brownie was rich and soft, and the mousse was creamy and tasted like whipped Oreos. We’d go back for this one again and again.
And lastly, we washed it all down with the Winter Milk Shake, a non-alcoholic creamy coconut milk shake topped with whipped cream, toasted coconut, cinnamon, and crisp pearls.
Our coconut-loving reporter loved this one! If you don’t like coconut, you might find that this tastes like suntan lotion. However, if you’re a fan of coconut, it’s creamy, rich, and has a light flavor with fun, crispy pearls and shaved coconut for added texture. We’d get this one again, too!
We’ll be here all night trying all the new snacks and bringing you the latest news, so stay tuned to DFB!
