Guys, it is so hot out there!! And when I’m sweltering and sweating, there’s one thing I know to do: eat more ice cream.

Dino-Bite Snacks -- Outside
Today, I’m heading over to DinoLand U.S.A. (YAY!!!!!!) in Disney’s Animal Kingdom to one of my favorite ice cream stops, Dino-Bite Snacks!
With its shiny quilted aluminum siding, this little snack shack has a vintage feel that matches the rest of DinoLand U.S.A. It serves up ice cream in a variety of ways, plus churros and other snacks.
Most of the time, a stop for me here means just one thing: a hand-made ice cream cookie sandwich! But I decided to branch out just a bit today and try their new-to-me Old-Fashioned Hot Fudge Sundae.
Old-Fashioned Hot Fudge Sundae
You’ll find Dino-Bite Snacks just to the right of Restaurantosaurus (YAY!!!!!!!!!!!) as you’re facing the counter service spot. It’s not much more than a kiosk, with separate windows for ordering and pick up.
Like I mentioned, the menu is limited only to snacks and beverages. Nothing here would make a meal — unless you fancy an ice cream sandwich in place of breakfast. (I’m not necessarily admitting I’ve done this before, but…)
Hand-scooped ice cream is available, but there are only a few varieties. Choose from vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, or chocolate chip. You can also get a float here as well!

But we hadn’t tried the hot fudge sundae, so I decided this was the day. Once I ordered my sundae at window number one, the same cast member busied herself with scooping the ice cream and preparing the toppings. I took my sundae to the adjacent covered seating area that wraps around one side of the building to enjoy it.
There are no surprises here. Warm hot fudge goes into the cup first, followed by scoops of vanilla ice cream. The ice cream is topped with another drizzle of hot fudge before it’s sprinkled with walnuts and a cherry (or in this case, two).

And while it doesn’t look like all that much ice cream, it seemed to grow when I started digging into it!

I really could have done with a LOT more hot fudge. I even contemplated going back and asking for more. Still, the basic ingredients of this sundae are true to its description as old-fashioned.
The nuts provided a little texture to contrast with all the sweet and creamy going on beneath them.

All in all, the sundae was good, but it was kind of unremarkable. Next to superstars like the killer new All-American Sundae at Magic Kingdom’s Plaza Ice Cream Parlor, this one pales in comparison. Still, if you’re a sundae purist who doesn’t like anything terribly fancy obstructing your ice cream and hot fudge, you’ll probably enjoy this one. Just don’t forget to ask for more hot fudge! 🙂

When they are offered, ice cream floats are most refreshing for me. A little hydration, a scoop of ice cream to give you that sugar rush. Perfect.
I’ll be in WDW next week. Looking forward to having enough ice cream in the heat and humidity to spoil my dinner. I’m an adult, so I can do things like that now.
While it looks good, I agree that it definitely needs more fudge topping. There is nothing sadder than running out of topping before you run out of ice cream.
Funny how its only 30 cents more than the next expensive item, but doesn’t count as a snack on the dining plan.
Hard to justify shelling out actual cash for that when I could be having ice cream sandwiched between two fresh chocolate chip cookies as a snack.
Yeah my first trip to DW back in 09 we got these as snacks on the dining plan. Sad that they aren’t an option for the dining plan any longer.
First of all, I agree that there’s not enough hot fudge. Second, it doesn’t even qualify as a hot fudge sundae (in my opinion) because there’s no whipped cream! Oh, the indignity of it all! Then they add insult to injury by not letting you use it as a snack on the dining plan? AND they don’t offer a choice of ice cream – just vanilla? I think I’d be ordering the ice cream cookie sandwich, and getting a real sundae elsewhere. But that’s just me.
Even though it looks unremarkable, it still makes me want ice cream….and its only 8:45am in CA!!!
