You might not think that it’s possible to include the words “Disney World” and “ghost town” in the same sentence unless you’re talking about an epic idea for a Frontierland-style Haunted Mansion attraction. But the truth is, there are quite a few places in Disney World that are totally empty and abandoned.
Sure, you may have heard about the old Discovery Island or River Country locations that no longer exist, but this time, we’re talking about a spot in Magic Kingdom that you probably walk past all the time.
Right between the edge of Main Street, U.S.A., and the entrance to Tomorrowland lies a HUGE covered space full of untapped potential. Any guesses what we’re talking about? Um, hey, Disney? What happened to the Tomorrowland Terrace Restaurant?
OK, for a little bit of background, the Tomorrowland Terrace used to be a little quick-service dining location that would occasionally open during peak season. The food was never exceptionally exciting, but you could grab things like chicken strips, bacon cheeseburgers, and salads here.
At one point, it even served as the temporary replacement for Columbia Harbour House, which was closed during the pandemic in 2020. (Whew! We had to DIG into the archives for this photo!)
These days, this place is only really used during the Magic Kingdom Fireworks Dessert Viewing Parties in the evenings. You can learn more about these add-on experiences HERE.
But during the day? It’s basically a big, open waste of space! Hey, if you need a quiet place to sit, this is a great option, though.
So, what happened here? Is this space unused due to staffing shortages? Maybe Disney doesn’t want to spend the time and money on another food location. Either way, we’re a creative group of people — let’s come up with a better use of this space! Off the top of our heads, we’re picturing a big, open space for new character meet-and-greets or a fun new dining location that serves nothing but appetizers. Who’s with us?
These days, the Tomorrowland Terrace is pretty much a ghost town, and we’re ready for a makeover. Anyone else? In the meantime, we’re always on the lookout for the latest Disney news, so stay tuned for more.

I think they should keep it open and serve galaxy-styled food.
Machado says
Please don’t mess with the Fireworks Dessert Party.
Terrace could open to breakfast or lunch.

WDW Needs an Overall Makeover. Period !
Aida says
Breakfast, and quick service lunches such as salads, sandwiches, fruit cups, yogurt and soft drinks would be ideal.

I used to eat at this restaurant back in the 1980’s and they had great chicken strips and hamburgers I remember correctly! They need to open this area back up and serve easy counter service foods since I don’t think they have a kitchen in that area. We need more counter service food options at MK especially because it looks like they will never revert the Beauty and the Beast Castle back to a counter service option at lunch!!!!

I have been going to WDW since 1974. The Tomorrowland Terrace used to be busy all the time. Times change, I guess. I think they should open it as a nice sandwich deli at lunchtime; a place where you can get a very nice lunch, which is rare in the MK.
Ronjon says
When we go to DW, it was always empty. I always thought it was a place for private events.
Mark says
I definitely would sit there to cool off. The food was not the greatest
Carolyn Doraz says
We often walk through there and wonder why not open. They need more restaurants in that area!! Just basic hamburgers hot dogs and sandwiches with fries!! And make it affordable. They will come!
Abigail says
If I recall correctly, ages and ages ago — like early 2000s? Maybe circa 2003ish??? — this place served fast dining Asian-fusion food. I think I remember getting steamed dumplings here. It was my go-to place for fast dining in the Magic Kingdom for a hot minute.
Rachelle says
RandyC has a great idea – Tomorrowland Terrace would be a great place for a deli. Let’s hope somebody at Disney sees his comment!

We ate there several times and were fine with it when I check out the prices at the castle there is no way that we will spend that type of money for three people and even if it were for one person that is definitely overpriced they r stopping people from going there b cause they can’t afford it and it’s nothing but corporate greed they have ruined a dream for a lot of people to go there like I said we have been going there since -1974 and not go there anymore b cause it sway too much to go there and we r annual Passholders and have been for over 40 years and we live out of state
