I think we can all be honest with each other here — the Disney World app has its faults.
My Disney Experience is useful when you’re trying to Mobile Order your next meal or check the wait times, but between the confusing Genie+ system, the clunky search function, and the random glitches that we’ve experienced in the past, we’ve had a fair share of frustrations with the app. But apparently, there’s one frustration plaguing app users that’s such a big problem Disney is issuing a WARNING.
Today we were just la dee da scrolling, minding our own business, when this message popped up on the home screen of My Disney Experience. It reads, “This app contains in-app purchases for services like Disney PhotoPass downloads that cost real money.”
Umm…have you guys been paying with Monopoly money? Because if so, we want to get in on that! Our accountant would be a lot happier with us if we could avoid touching our bank account during Disney trips. 😉
It seems as though some guests have been making purchases through the app, not realizing that they needed to actually PAY for those purchases. Possibly kids getting ahold of their parents’ phones?
We’re usually pretty lucid when we buy our Corn Dog Nuggets, but in case you were wondering where those random charges came from during your vacation — this might be a helpful warning. Many people keep credit or debit card information saved to their Disney account, and if you let your little ones use your phone unsupervised, it’s easy to make a number of purchases through the app.
Disney hasn’t shared the official reason why this warning is showing up now, but we’ll keep you in the loop if we get any more details.

Anytime warnings like this appear anywhere, my immediate suspect is “the lawyers.” Some idiot, somewhere, must have claimed that no one ever said this wasn’t free, so it’s safe to assume it IS free. Lawyers love warning people. Why else would you warn people that coffee is hot or not to use your lawnmower to trim your hedges.
Doc Brown had it right in Back to The Future 2 when he noted everything went a lot better when they got rid of all the lawyers.

That’s probably some random thing they had to add for the various app stores, what with all the various law suits that have been happening lately. It’d be moderately amusing if they had to sell “Disney Gems” or something ridiculous to get around app store rules…

all of this is just so bad, its a rotten system and Disney is just playing with guests and their accounts. They must be over loaded with bank claims and credit card claims. The whole thing needs to do. bunch of geeks have ruined the place to mention the horrible management.

I’m amazed how a simple app can be so complicated for some people. It’s not Rocket Science, it’s a simple modern day phone app. Seems like the ones who are confused are the ones that still use cash, and do all their banking inside an actual bank. They still probably write checks and mail in payments.
Someone wrote the Geeks ruined everything. No they didn’t, it’s the people stuck in the past who can’t grasp simple technology are the ones slowing up progress and making things complicated.
