Traveling can be stressful. It’s easy to get caught up in flight changes and cancelations, especially when the weather is looking iffy. Plus, we know how hard it is to round up everyone and everything traveling with you, all while trying to make sure you’re as prepared as possible. While we’re still waiting on those proposed developments that would help make security screening easier (and potentially faster), accidents still can happen.
If you’ve ever gotten on an airplane only to get to your seat and realize that you’re missing something, you may have thought, “Well, that’s it; I’ll never find it now.” However, we’re here to show you the BEST source to reach out to when these things happen and how to reclaim your lost items.
It’s not the most ideal situation, but it happens more often than you think. Traveling with “all the things” at the airport can lead to all kinds of accidents! You may end up leaving an item or two behind and not realizing until it’s too late.
So, what do you do when you realize you’ve lost something while going through the airport? Who do you reach out to? The answer is really pretty simple.
TSA has set up its own Lost and Found protocol. On their website, they’ve got a list of contacts to handle items left at TSA security checkpoints. Once you’re there to search, simply type in the airport code to bring up the correct contacts. This department can also assist in locating items missing from checked baggage.
This site also has a full FAQ about lost items, how they’re handled, and how arrangements are made to reunite you with your belongings.
If you’ve realized that you’ve lost items in other areas of the airport (or have checked with TSA and been unable to locate your item further), they ask that you check the airport’s website for contact information for help locating your items beyond their reach.
Oh, and for all that lost and unclaimed luggage? Well, airports have a plan for that, too! There’s a special location where unclaimed luggage ends up called — get ready — Unclaimed Baggage. Here, you can BUY other people’s stuff! Luckily, now that you know that insider TSA tip, your luggage won’t end up at the Unclaimed Baggage store.
