Disney’s new park pass reservation rules have officially gone into effect, and with that has come a slight change to virtual queues.
Now that people with date-based tickets do NOT need to make a park reservation, they are able to book a virtual queue for any ride with one in either park (Magic Kingdom and EPCOT, currently) at the 7AM drop. Currently, TRON Lightcycle / Run in Magic Kingdom and Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind in EPCOT are the only two rides with virtual queues. But will they be sticking around and could we see others join the lineup? Here are our thoughts.
Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind
We’re going to start with the very popular ride in EPCOT. This new ride opened in 2022 and has continued to have a virtual queue since then. And truthfully, we don’t see that going away any time soon.
This super cool roller-coaster has continued to be a hot ticket item (and for good reason). With as popular as it is and the fact that there are currently no new rides slotted to open in EPCOT, we’re guessing we’ll be seeing the virtual queue stick around in 2024 for our trusty heroes.
However, the ride is going on 2 years old, so perhaps the virtual queue could go away similar to how Rise of the Resistance‘s did after a few years.
TRON Lightcycle / Run
TRON just opened this year, in 2023, but we have a feeling that the virtual queue for this ride may be going away sometime in 2024.
We wonder if Disney gave us a little hint about the virtual queue going away when they announced that it will be removed during the upcoming After Hours events in 2024. During the events in Magic Kingdom, you won’t have to snag a boarding group, you can just enter the standby line. Perhaps this will be a test run to see how it would go if they removed it.
We also have a feeling it could go away when the highly anticipated new Tiana’s Bayou Adventure ride comes to Magic Kingdom opens in 2024. Up to this point, we’ve only seen one ride per park with a virtual queue. So perhaps if the new ride gets a virtual queue, then the TRON standby line will be used instead. It is a much newer ride than Guardian’s but this just seems to make sense with a new attraction slotted to open in 2024.
Tiana’s Bayou Adventure
Since we are all so curious about the ride that is replacing a classic and favorite ride, we’re guessing Disney expecting it to be very busy. This makes us believe it is a very good candidate to get a virtual queue.
If Tiana’s Bayou Adventure gets a virtual queue, like we’re expecting it to, then we’re guessing that TRON’s will go away. But we will have to just wait a few more months to officially find out!

These are all rides my family will not be riding. I refuse to spend my vacation on my phone. If you want to ride stand in line!! It worked before!! Paying to ride rides that are already included in your already exorbitant ticket price, is just wrong!! Disney’s bullshit excuses for this “necessity” is wrong!!!!

Love the virtual queue for access to Guardians of the Galaxy!! We’ve gotten on the ride every time we’ve been to Epcot. We’re going to Magic Kingdom in two weeks and are expecting the queue for Tron to be just as easy.
It’s not an extra charge to ride, unless you want to (which we’ve done because Guardians is such a GREAT RIDE!) It’s kind of like putting your name on the waiting list for a restaurant, you get a text that says it’s time to go and you have an hour .. which they’re kind of lenient on 😉
I’m a fan of the queues!!

After experiencing, due to the wretched wait for the Tron ride (called at 4:30.. rode after 10 PM), the worst day of my life at WDW earlier this year, I vowed I’d never use the Virtual Queue again. Had a good experience once with Rise and a good one with Rattatouile but the Tron debacle was the worst! NEVER again.

Disney is not lenient on the return time for Tron and I have waited in line for at least one hour each time I have used the virtual queue for Tron. I have found the VQs for Guardians and Tron to be very different from each other.

How absurd to remake Splash Mountain keep it closed thru 2 entire hot Orlando summers then make it difficult for people to get on it or have to pay extra. Doesn’t anyone see the sheer audacity of that?

I am not a fan of the virtual queues or having to pay for lightning lane. Paying for lighting lane on top of the high price of the tickets make the gap between the haves and the have-nots even wider. it wreaks of greediness. Also, there are fewer benefits of staying on property unless you pay for a deluxe resort. Even yet another widening of the money gap. I will be vacationing and spending my money at other places for a long time to come. I love Disney and the level of theming but will make the trip way less often.
