Disney World’s Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser hotel may be closed for good, but that might not be the end of the story.
The immersive, cruise-like experience was shuttered after it turned out that the cost to run the hotel was too much compared to the amount of money it was bringing in. Disney hasn’t made any sort of announcements about what could be next for the space or if we’d ever see anything like the Star Wars Hotel again, but we think we may have found our first hint.
We still may not have an official answer, but we do have a sign — and we’ll take it! Disney World has filed a new permit for construction at the Star Wars Hotel.
A Notice of Commencement was filed on January 25th, 2024 for “General Construction” at an address that matches up with the former Galactic Starcruiser (201 S. Studio Dr.) The contractor who will be doing the work is listed as Sunstate Awning & Graphic Design, Inc., so it’s possible that these will be some cosmetic changes and not necessarily a huge demolition or anything like that.
Permits need to be filed for all sorts of work, sometimes even minor, so while this permit is exciting it doesn’t give us too many details.
But, it does mean that we could start to see even more Star Wars Hotel permits on the way as Disney ramps up their plans for this location. We spotted another permit back in October for general construction, and we know that Disney was sending surveys out to past guests to ask about their experience.
No matter what, it’s clear that Disney does have plans for the Star Wars Hotel. What those plans might be, we’re not quite sure yet. One thing is for sure, we’ll be on the lookout for more permits and news about what could be on the way for this space — so stay tuned to DFB for the latest news!

This is music to my (mouse) ears! I never had the opportunity to stay at the Galactic Starcruiser because it was WAY too costly even for the biggest Star Wars fan ever (me). And I ALSO remember the Star Wars dessert party they use to have and I never got to go. I was supposed to go in 2020 but the park closed down for COVID. So, I love this idea! I’ll keep my fingers crossed.

If Disney could just run the numbers and adjust the “experience”, reduce the number of actors but keep some of the interactive parts (engine room, flying the ship, Sabacc Table, etc.). Treat it like an inclusive hotel or make it a regular hotel where you pay for your food. It might work out as a Star Wars hoteling experience instead of a Live action Role playing experience.

I think they should just make it a themed hotel with rates in between Caribbean Beach & Polynesian rates so it’s more affordable and recoup some of the $$ they spent on the build.

Disney should reopen the hotel as a hotel. Add themed pools, outdoor seating and a themed walking path and gardens to Hollywood Studios (if possible). I would stay at the Star Wars Resort.

I feel they need to cover all 9 movies, not a story re blacksphire outpost , also have all characters from all Star Wars movies walking through battu, but the hotel needs to be just that, a Star Wars themed resort, not story driven at $5000 for 2 nights, that’s where it went wrong period !! I’m a 77 star wars fan , and I can tell you the pricing was way off for most people , how can people from AS resorts afford $5000, to stay 2 nights, I wouldn’t be asking people’s advise that have stayed there, make the survey far wider, you’ll find your answer in the poor not the rich!!!true Disney fans are all ages and all backgrounds, not just the super rich.

Yes just make it a star wars themed hotel
Add a pool
Restaurants
People would pay if it were the costs were not outrageous and not an immersive multi-day experience

Many people have had it a little rough the last few years because of all the inflation (despite politicians denying the price increases!). There are so many Star War fans out there. If they made a themed hotel with an eatery, pool with a snack bar, recreational area, and gift shop, guests would love it. I honestly think that the bookings would be solid from opening day. It wouldn’t have to be immersive and super expensive to be popular or successful.

Your absolutely right ref hotel, I also think Disney have really missed a trick with battu, if they’d made it say intergalactic space port, it could of covered all 9 movies, plus characters from all 9 walking around the land, merchandise would be a real hit also, imagine a tee saying, “ I joined the resistance at Hollywood studios “ they’d sell so much, I’m a fan of 77-83, but they’ve missed so many opportunities with SW , just give an all star style hotel but Star Wars, stop being so pretentious Disney!

My money is on enclosing the climate simulator to protect from the elements long term.
