Imagine this: you’ve planned the perfect Disney World vacation.
You’ve picked out the BEST hotel to stay at for you and your group. You’ve got your park tickets. You’ve scanned into the park, and you’re ready to ride some rides. Well, maybe you ride something a little too extreme and then end up feeling sick for the rest of the day. It’s the WORST, and believe us, it’s happened to EVERYONE, but we’re going to help you avoid those rides that tend to make people sick.
Okay, we know that some people can ride just about anything and literally feel NOTHING, but many of us have to avoid the spinny rides and the more thrilling rides because, well, we know they’ll make us sick. We’re writing this based on a LOT of unfortunate experiences, so you don’t have to go through what we’ve been through. So, if you deal with motion sickness or vertigo or just can’t handle certain things like spinning, tight turns, and motion simulators, avoid these rides at all costs.
Magic Kingdom
Okay, we know this one is a no-brainer. The Mad Tea Party is one of the WORST when it comes to motion sickness because all you do is spin in circles in a teacup. Does that really even SOUND like fun? The thing is, kids LOVE this ride, which means one adult is going to have to take one for the team to ride with their kids. All we can say is “NOT IT.”
You’ll also want to avoid Space Mountain if you struggle with motion sickness. Granted, it’s not as bad as the teacups, but because the ride is in the dark, you can never see the next turn or dip coming. Also, this ride is just ROUGH. If you don’t mind having every bone inside your body shaken loose, then, by all means, get on Space Mountain. Also, is it just us getting old, or is this ride getting harder to get into and out of?
Okay, now on to the other spinning rides. If spinning bothers you, you’ll also want to avoid Dumbo the Flying Elephant, Astro Orbiters, and The Magic Carpets of Aladdin. If you have doubts about any ride, though, you can always view POV ride videos before your trip to determine if it might cause problems for you.
7 Rides Disney World Pros SKIP in Magic Kingdom
EPCOT
There’s one ride in EPCOT that even our bravest souls here at DFB avoid, and that’s Mission: SPACE. Why? Because it will put you on the very same centrifuge that is used to train astronauts to tolerate high G-forces. Unless you’re training as an astronaut, why would you EVER want to go on something like that? If you MUST ride, avoid the orange side and head for the green (that’s the non-spinning version). Of all the rides in Disney World, this one has probably made the most visitors hurl. There are literally vomit bags IN the ride.
Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind is one of the newest and HOTTEST rides in Disney World right now, but if you get motion sick pretty easily, you’ll want to avoid it. This roller coaster has a reverse launch, tight turns, and spinning. Even some of our more seasoned thrill ride vets felt a little rough after their first ride on this one.
Even if you’re okay with most motion simulator rides, many folks find Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure a little nauseating. That’s because the action on the screen is super fast, plus the vehicle makes tight turns and does some spinning. It’s also 3D, which is often a problem for folks who easily get motion sickness. It’s not as bad as Body Wars (and if you know, you know), but it’s close.
The 5 Best Rides at EPCOT (And the 5 Worst!)
Disney’s Hollywood Studios
Okay, Star Wars fans, we’ve got two rides that may cause some issues for you. The first is Star Tours, which is a 3D adventure that simulates a thrilling chase through space. If motion simulators make you sick, this one is one to skip.
We also have to warn you about Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run. It’s also a motion simulator (although without the 3D glasses) and can also cause issues for folks sensitive to that.
Over in Toy Story Land, you’ll want to avoid Alien Swirling Saucers because it’s a ride that spins. It’s similar to the teacups ride in Magic Kingdom, but not quite as spinny.
The only ride you’ll find in Disney World with an upside-down loop is Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, which is why you’ll probably want to stay away from it. Granted, the roller coaster is in the dark, and you might not even realize you’re going through a loop, but this one has also been known to make people feel sick after riding it.

Disney’s Animal Kingdom
Over in DinoLand, U.S.A., you’ll find TriceraTop Spin, which has the word “spin” in its title. It’s a Dumbo-like ride, but it does go around in a circle over and over, so you might want to keep away. We also have to warn you about Dinosaur because it’s a ROUGH ride that might not make you feel sick, but it could shake your bones up as much as Space Mountain, if not more. Our backs hurt just thinking about it.
Expedition Everest may look like a lot of fun, and it is for most people, but when some of us get to that point where the coaster goes backward and then does three circles WHILE going backward, it can be a bit too much. If spinning and going in circles makes you sick, skip it.
Flight of Passage may be one of Disney World’s most popular rides, but that doesn’t mean it’s for everyone. This is another ride where you wear 3D glasses and sit in front of a screen that simulates swooping and soaring through the sky.
4 Rides Disney World Pros SKIP in Disney’s Animal Kingdom
Now, we know that everyone is different, so some rides that aren’t on this list could be problematic for you, and some on this list might be fine for you. We recommend you take some time to research every ride to decide for yourself.

Lee Anne says
Those are ALL my favorite rides except Space Mountain, my knees refuse and Triceratops spin, I just haven’t been on it.
Nancy Stryker says
You should advise folks to sale their motion sickness pills in the AM prior to going to the parks. This works great . EXCEPT for the pain of Space Mountain.
Tracy says
I suffer from motion sickness, and I can’t ride most of these. The Dumbo – style rides are fine for me, except Astro-Orbiter (too high + too fast?). I can also ride Dinosaur if I sit in one of the inside seats, and Millennium Falcon as long as I’m not the pilot. If you get queasy but don’t like to take pills you could try wearing Sea Band wrist bands. They press on a pressure point on the wrist to prevent nausea due to motion sickness and you can get them at any drugstore or on Amazon.
Karl says
TRON has an area marked “recovery” when you get off the ride. I know. I’ve used it.
Tracy says
I went on Tron! I thought it would make me queasy but it didn’t. I was a little dizzy though.
