It seems the world can’t get enough of Taylor Swift — including Disney!
During the company’s first-quarter earnings call of 2024, it was revealed that the movie version of Taylor’s Eras Tour concert will be exclusively streaming on Disney+. But, with such exclusivity comes a hefty price tag — and you won’t believe just how much Disney paid for it!
Heads up, Taylor Swift fans! Disney+ will be the official home of The Eras Tour concert film when it debuts on March 15th. Along with the full concert, an additional four acoustic songs — including “Cardigan” will be part of the release. The streaming service will have exclusive rights to the movie — and Disney paid a hefty price for it. But, how much was it exactly?
According to Forbes, Disney paid a whopping $75 million for the exclusive streaming rights to The Eras Tour movie — that’s about 460,000 Disney World tickets!
Both Netflix and Universal bid on the film, but were ultimately beaten by Disney. Originally debuting in theaters, The Eras Tour grossed more than $261 million at the global box office — making it the highest-earning concert movie of all time.
The Eras Tour will be available on Disney+ as of March 15th — so mark your calendars if you consider yourself a Swiftie. And, don’t forget to stay tuned to DFB as we continue to bring you more updates about streaming and Disney+!

Guess it depends on your interests but that seems like a ridiculous waste of money!! And, Disney doesn’t need to be doing that right now!!

It’s a lot of money, but how cool would it be if RnR was re-themed to Taylor Swift?! 😳
Jazz Dee says
The CEOs and board members of Disney have profited very nicely over the years while the shareholders lost money on the stock or significantly trailed the S&P over the years. They have put out 5 movies in a row that lost money at the box office. And now, they are throwing money out the door to Taylor Swift so in effect they continue to look out for themselves and people like them, Taylor Swift. A proxy fight is in the works so keeping fingers crossed that this all gets corrected soon.
