We’ve got an update on a new theme park that’s in the works!
There are a few new theme parks in progress around the U.S., including Universal’s Epic Universe and another new experience in Texas. But Universal isn’t the only one getting in on the action. Several months ago, we learned about American Heartland, a $2 billion theme park and resort project located in northeast Oklahoma that’s being created by former Disney Imagineers. And now we’ve got a new update on the project’s expected timeline!
According to initial renderings, the resort will span 1,000 acres, including a 125-acre theme park roughly the size of Disney World’s Magic Kingdom, a water park, a large RV park with cabins, a dinner theatre, an amphitheater, a swimming pool, a clubhouse, and more.
The park’s development team includes over a dozen former Disney employees with experience in special effects, technical design, entertainment, and more.
The theme park will feature six lands themed to Americana: Liberty Village, Great Plains, Bayou Bay, Bit Timber Falls, Stony Point Harbor, and Electropolis.
It was previously announced that the new park would open sometime in 2026, but now we have a more specific timeline for the project. American Heartland theme park is currently slated to open in the fall of 2026.
Construction is happening in stages and the Three Ponies RV and Campground, which will consist of an estimated 750 RV spaces and 300 cabins, is expected to be completed sooner. The RV park and cabins are scheduled to open in the spring of 2025 as part of the first phase.
Once construction is complete, the theme park’s team estimates it will attract more than two million out-of-state visitors to Oklahoma each year.
We’ll continue to be on the lookout for more updates on the construction progress and other new details about the theme park, so stay tuned to DFB for the latest news!

You’ve got to be crazy to build a park in Oklahoma. Do you know how cold it gets there? People are not gonna go there in a wintertime? So most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. That’s why I won’t build a border in California where I was born. I just throwing their money away from nothi. Should add It on to Disney World and forgot it. I don’t know who running things over there. But there needs somebody to do that. Really knows what they’re doing how ridiculous.
Jesse says
I’m looking forward to this!

I don’t see us going if there are no characters or Disney decor

If Joe Rhodes wasn’t a key designer I don’t think I care too much. I bring up Joe because he has been so instrumental to creating what we see as Disney parks today. Most others are gone, I’ve meet more than a few, most gone before I had a chance.
That being said, I would enjoy a new immersive theme park experience, could never be year-round in Ok though.

It’s about time Disney had some competition, they did this to themselves going so woke. Leave politics out of entertainment industry, the heartland is a perfect place for a family fun park. Disney has gotten too expensive! After seven trips to Disney World, it’s just not the same anymore, lost its magic! Heartland will be what Disney used to do so well, at an affordable price.

You people leaving disparaging remarks just don’t seem to comprehend…. THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH DISNEY! If you California know it alls knew anything about Oklahoma our winters are not as harsh as you think and it’s only cold for 2 months out of the year! Just because they are comparing the size to Disney World and some and I quote “FORMER as in once we’re but not anymore” designers and artists and engineers are doing this does not make this any part of Disneyland or world or anything associated with Disney. Disney screwed up when they stuck their noses into politics and peoples sex lives. Now look what’s happening to them. They are failing. That’s why these people are no longer with them is my assumption and they came to Oklahoma to build something more family friendly and less political and sexual. Happy to have you Heartland! I am 57 and 40 miles East of where this is being built and will be a frequent customer! And before you California people start in I was born in L. A. General Hospital in Los Angeles and sister was born in Covina so step off! Oklahoma is awesome!

Not only does it get cold, but, how about the tornadoes and nasty weather you get there? Not a smart move

I’ve seen what Midwest (even southern Midwest) weather conditions do to outdoor attraction facades. They’re either going to have to spend a ton on upkeep or scale back the level of detail on the buildings and rides.
LouiB says
Not sure what the more details are but until I read that they broke ground on the theme park and not any of the other stuff will I believe it will be built

@Jimmy Williams Your “assumptions” are wrong. You know nothing about why they left and if you think Disney is failing, LOL take a look at their earnings statements. The parks are packed. Those with you opinions are far outnumbered.
As for Oklahoma, I wish this new venture luck and I’m sure they did their due diligence when choosing a spot, but I can’t imagine planning a trip to OK just for this theme park. They’ll mainly get midwestern folk who find Orlando to far of a haul, like Dollywood. This will never be a drain on Disney.
Pris says
Completely agree with Jimmy Williams. Could it be that all this talent was fed up with the Disney woke bs and thought there is more to life than Disneyweird?? I’m delighted they are attempting this venture. I will be one of the multitude checking it out. I don’t listen to or have time for naysayers.

How come folks do not read? It is NOT a Disney park, adding on to WDW will not work out.
“I don’t see us going if there are no characters or Disney decor” Really? you did not read the article.
Sun Yong Lee says
We are looking forward to checking out this beautiful park when it opens.

OK Sooner

Don’t assume Imagineers have left due to some imaginary wokeness. Have you ever met an Imagineer? I have know and worked with a few and they are not generally conservative, quite the contrary. One reason many have left is that as Disney tightens the belt, so many of their ideas have been passed on, and so many of their actual projects are being put on held. They’re frustrated and this new park is a chance to design and build on a massive scale. Now, I don’t know if these particular Imagineers left for those reasons but it’s a much higher likelihood than some vain assumptions about conservative dreams of Disney suffering from wokeness. LOL
