Get your fedora ready!
This weekend, Disney hosted the massive D23 Ultimate Fan Event in Anaheim, California. The sprawling convention broke news from across Disney’s spectrum of offerings, including films, television streaming, video games, and parks.
At Saturday night’s Horizons: Disney Experiences Showcase panel, Disney formally announced what had been long-suspected: Indiana Jones is coming to Animal Kingdom!

Back in 2023, Disney announced that a retheme was coming to DinoLand, U.S.A. in Animal Kingdom. It was later announced that DinoLand would be transformed into an area themed to the Tropical Americas — and that Indiana Jones was a potential contender for new IP in this area. Well, that has officially been confirmed at D23 with the help of Oscar Winner, and Indy-franchise veteran Ke Huy Quan.
Disney has announced that an Indiana Jones ride is coming to Animal Kingdom’s new 11-acre Tropical Americas section that will transform DinoLand, U.S.A.
The Indiana Jones ride will feature a brand-new story. As described by Disney, the attraction will follow “the man with the hat” during a time when he has “recently discovered a perfectly preserved Maya temple, and that can only mean one thing: it’s time to explore it. He’s heard rumors about a mythical creature deep within the temple — and he’s got to see it for himself. So, he brings us along on the adventure… but will there be snakes? We’ll just have to wait and see.”
Don’t forget — this new Indy experience will be different from ANY other Indiana Jones experience around the world. That means this version of the ride will not be the same as the one at Disneyland Resort. The transformation of DinoLand will begin this fall and occur in stages, so you still have a chance to experience Dinosaur “one more time,” according to Disney.

The Indiana Jones ride will be part of the larger Tropical Americas area, which will also feature an attraction based on Encanto. According to Disney, “the land feels lived in, with a long, rich history — plus there’s a large hacienda which will be one of the largest quick-service restaurants at Walt Disney World Resort. The space will be lush and sprawling, featuring a large fountain in the center where the villagers like to gather and tell stories. Additionally, a woodcarver has created a giant working carousel featuring his favorite animals from Disney stories. It’s a new take on a classic attraction that young families are going to love.”

But are there going to be animals from the tropical Americas??

How does Indiana Jones have anything to do with animals?
WDWFan says
@laurel, it doesn’t. I suspect the “brand new” storyline of the ride involving a creature is what they intend to tie it back to an animal. The truth is that the “Dinosaur” ride was a copy of Disneylands Indy ride and converted to a Dino theme…so it’s cheaper to retheme it back to an Indy ride instead of making a brand new ride somewhere else. Bummer that they have so much land and continue to take away older lands versus expanding.
