Walt Disney was right. It looks like Disneyland will NEVER stop growing and expanding.
Disney recently dropped a new map on their DisneylandForward website that goes over some of the potential changes to their $1.9 billion investment plan to continue growing and expanding Disneyland, and we wanted to take a closer look at the map to point out some of those updates you might have missed!
When you head over to the website, you’ll find there’s a new “Possibilities Map” that reflects the updated ideas and approvals for upcoming changes to Disneyland. Here’s that map:
Now it’s time to put on your detective hat and arm yourself with the map’s legend to make sense of it all. Here’s that legend:
Let’s start analyzing this map by zooming in on the left-hand side which we’ll arbitrarily call “DisneylandForward West” since it’s on the West side of the map (to the left of both Disneyland and Disney California Adventure on the map).
Both sections have what appear to be walkways that would go over Disneyland Drive and connect the sections to their respective park (the top for Disneyland and the bottom for Disney California Adventure). This layout seems to indicate that it’s more likely to become an extension of each of the current theme parks as opposed to becoming brand new theme parks in their own right, so similar to a themed land being added to one of the existing parks.
Disney shared that this plan would allow them to bring more innovative and immersive attractions to the parks and if we reference the concept rendering for this area, we can see that it looks more and more likely that this will be more theme parks. The website mentions the possibility of lands based on Neverland and others similar to Zootopia Land at Shanghai Disney Resort, Rapunzel’s Forest at Tokyo DisneySea, and World of Frozen at Hong Kong Disneyland. When you zoom even further into the map, it does look like they have conceptually designed the layout around four distinct lands.
If we had to put on our imagination hats, we could speculate that the top section would house a land like Rapunzel’s Forest…
…and this bottom section would house Zootopia, World of Frozen, and a Neverland area. Now, turning our sights to the other proposed section, which we’ll dub “DisneylandForward South” since it’s on the South side of the map, it seems more plausible that this area would be developed into something akin to Disney Springs.
It could even be a hybrid of the Springs and Disney’s Boardwalk being that there appears to be a combination of hotels and retail. Either way, Disney said, “This property could be the perfect location to cater to locals, conventioneers, hotel and Disneyland Resort guests with restaurants, hotels, live music, shopping, ticketed shows and theme park experiences modeled after the popular Disney Springs at Walt Disney World Resort.”
