There are some figures in The Walt Disney Company who just stand out as icons.

From Walt Disney himself to Mary Blair to the “Nine Old Men,” the early years of the company were filled with many important contributors. But even in modern times, there are some executives, creatives, and Imagineers who will go down in history. One of those people is Joe Rohde…and he’s returning to Walt Disney Imagineering for a limited time!
In an Instagram post, Joe Rohde shared a video walking into Walt Disney Imagineering to “Do a bit of work at the old farm.” We were left wondering what that meant, but not for long! Disney confirmed that beginning this week, Imagineers will have opportunities to participate in masterclasses hosted by Joe Rohde.

Disney went on to praise Rohde, saying, “Following in the footsteps of many former Imagineers, Joe continues to mentor and share his years of storytelling knowledge with current Imagineers, contributing to the future of creativity at Walt Disney Imagineering.”

Joe Rohde was the Imagineer in charge of Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park, as well as its Pandora — the World of Avatar expansion. Other noteworthy projects of his included Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission BREAKOUT, Aulani, A Disney Resort and Spa, and Expedition Everest.

We’ll be interested to learn more about Rohde’s brief return to Imagineering and all the masterclasses he’ll be teaching in that time, so stay tuned to DFB in case we get any updates. Hopefully these classes will be beneficial for Imagineering and Disney’s future parks projects!

Great news! Joe Rohde embodies everything that is or was great about Disney — Disney needs to hire him back PERMANENTLY, even on a part-time or consulting basis, and get his input on all major design decisions.
Have to imagine it’s to support the retheming of Dinoland to South America to keep try and keep the level of immersion at the same high-level as the rest of the Animal Kingdom park.
