Disney World can be absolutely disgusting.
No, we’re not talking about the cleanliness of the parks (which, let’s be honest, is pretty great by theme park standards — kudos to the custodial team!), we’re talking about how gross WE get IN the parks. From excessive sweatiness to illness to sunburn and everything in-between, there are plenty of gross problems we’ve encountered during our Disney World visits. And today we’re sharing how to avoid the most disgusting of those issues!
Blisters
Let’s start off by discussing something that we wouldn’t wish on our worst enemy in Disney World — blisters! Blisters can be excruciatingly painful, especially when they’re on your feet and you just have to keep walking around the parks. So how do we prevent them?
First of all, we NEVER recommend breaking in new shoes in Disney World. We often walk 20,000 steps per day during a Disney vacation and that is not the time to be testing your new kicks. Only pack shoes that you’ve walked plenty of steps in before, otherwise you’ll be cursing yourself at the end of the day.
If you have a pair of shoes that are prone to giving you blisters, we recommend using Band-Aids or Moleskin. Both of these are effective methods for preventing your shoes from rubbing against your heels and ankles. If you’ve already got a blister, at the very least they’ll keep the problem from getting worse.
Sunburn
Sunburn is a pretty common problem in the Florida sun, and we’ve had to deal with it many a time! Our first tip is to make sure that you apply SPF every day of your trip — and get all the spots of your skin that are exposed to the sun. And of course, don’t forget to reapply throughout the day.
If you fall victim to sunburn, make sure to treat the affected area! We recommend bringing some aloe along with you on your trip just in case. And if possible, keep the burned area out of the sun until it heals.
Excessive Sweating
It gets SO humid in Florida during the summer months and throughout the fall, so excessive sweating is a common problem. Of course, our #1 recommendation is to wear antiperspirant — you’ll probably need something stronger than what you wear at home.
Moisture-wicking clothes are also a great choice. On top of that, don’t forget to pack a portable fan and/or a cooling towel. Take plenty of breaks in the air conditioning and stagger your attractions so that you don’t spend too many straight hours outdoors.
Basically, take care of yourself! Heat stroke is a very real concern, so you want to pace yourself and be prepared for the weather.
Chafing
When you get sweaty and you’re wearing shorts because it’s hot, chafing suddenly becomes glaringly problematic. And nobody wants to waddle around all day! That’s why we pack chafing sticks in our park bag — to keep the friction to a minimum.
We’re big fans of slip shorts or bike shorts underneath if you’re wearing a dress or skirt. And before you leave on your trip, make sure to try on your outfits and walk around in them a bit. Shorts that are a perfect length for lounging at home might not be quite long enough to withstand miles of walking in the parks.
Sickness
Many people worry about getting sick while on vacation in Disney World, and it’s a pretty common issue. We’ve dealt with it plenty of times, and the best way to conquer it is to stay on top of things! Make sure to get plenty of vitamin C in your system before and during your trip, and hydrate, hydrate, HYDRATE in the parks.
To avoid stomach issues, we recommend trying to keep your diet similar to what you would eat at home. Don’t overexert yourself or consume foods that you know will make you ill. We promise that getting sick in a Disney World bathroom is not all it’s cracked up to be!
If you get sick in Disney World, the parks have First Aid care centers, and your hotel will have resources for local doctors and urgent care centers or hospitals. You won’t be stranded!
Getting Soaked From the Rain
And last but not least, let’s talk about the rain! It rains pretty much every day in Disney World in the summer, so it’s best to be prepared with either rain jackets, ponchos, or umbrellas. Bring plastic bags or waterproof containers to store your valuables, and make sure you have park bags that aren’t going to be ruined if they get wet.
We also like to bring backup socks or shoes sometimes in the case of heavy rain — it’s nice to change into dry footwear after yours gets soaked. And it never hurts to schedule your indoor meals and activities around those afternoon rainstorms. You can enjoy a little time where it’s dry and cool!
So those are some of the problems you’ll face in Disney World and how we deal with them, as people who go to Disney World every single day. Stay tuned to DFB for more tips and advice on how to conquer the parks and have the best vacation ever!

I’m so grateful to you guys for turning me on to moleskin patches. I wore them to PAX East this year, also a high-walking event and I’m wearing specialized insoles, and they worked so well to prevent those raw spots!

Moleskin is amazing! So glad they worked out for you!

Moleskin is great but if you’ve never tried band-aid hydro-seal blister patches, you should. I never go to the parks without them and I was skeptical but if I put one on a blister, it goes from a lot of pain and barely walking to forgetting its even there

i love K.T blister tape as well! i was given a ton of sample size packages and keep them in my park bag along with moleskin patches. I stick the tape on my feet at the start of a trip at my heel and the top of my foot where my sandals cross and they were amazing at preventing blisters!!!
