It’s been a chaotic day in Disney World. Let us tell you about our day. Pull up a seat and listen closely. Our story might just make you feel a little better about your day when you hear all the PROBLEMS we endured.
Where to start? OK, so for context, it is March 29th. A Friday. The Friday before Easter. One of the last Fridays of the spring break season. It’s busy. But amid all the hustle and bustle, a popular form of Walt Disney World transportation decided to take a vacation of its own. Yep, that’s right. The Disney World Monorail is down right now. That means you’ve only got one way into Magic Kingdom from the Transportation and Ticket Center: the ferry. Let’s see what’s happening.
First, let’s paint a picture for you. Take a look at the Magic Kingdom wait times around 5PM. Even the classic Magic Kingdom rides that typically have a LOW wait time, like Astro Orbiter or Dumbo the Flying Elephant, had wait times just under an hour. YIKES.
It gets worse. Look how high the wait times are for some of the most popular attractions in the park. And that’s not even the highest wait of the day! In fact, we saw Flight of Passage reach a 205-minute wait in Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Even Mission: SPACE had a 120-minute wait time. That’s how you know it’s a BUSY day.
In total, we saw six rides across the four parks reach over a 100-minute wait. If you found yourself in the parks today, we’re sorry.
Another check on the My Disney Experience app proved that it was truly a rough day for Disney World attractions. Five of the most popular rides in Disney World were all closed at the same time. Seven Dwarfs Mine Train has been closed for HOURS at this point, with no sign of reopening.
Now, back to the Monorail. According to Cast Members at the Transporation and Ticket Center, BOTH Magic Kingdom Monorail loops are down right now (both the Resort and Express routes). Cast Members did not have any estimation as to when the Monorail could reopen, so for now, you must use an alternate mode of transportation to get to or from Magic Kingdom. Disney is also running buses to the Monorail resorts at this time.
UPDATE: As of 6PM, the Monorail reopened. Passengers onboard (including one of our reporters) experienced delays after leaving the station, and Cast Members announced that another Monorail train on the line was experiencing technical difficulties.
As you can see, even Disney World rides and Monorails have a bad day every once in a while! There’s not much you can do but remain calm and flexible in these situations. Luckily, this is Disney World, so there are still plenty of alternative transportation options AND rides. In the meantime, we’re always on the lookout for the latest Disney news, so stay tuned for more.

Just had dinner at Victoria and Albert’s and were wondering why security had the monorail entrance blocked off at Grand Floridian! Thanks! We successfully did guardians and Expedition Everest with Lightning this AM. End of honeymoon!
