One of Disney’s World’s oldest hotels is scheduled for a gas outage this week that will affect anyone staying on property.
The resort currently known as Shades of Green first opened as the Disney Golf Resort in 1973, catered mainly to those playing on Walt Disney World’s Palm and Magnolia golf courses. The resort’s name was changed to the Disney Inn and it was retimed to Snow White in 1986 in an attempt to raise occupancy rates and appeal to those beyond golfers. In the mid-1990s, the hotel was purchased by the U.S. Department of Defense for use by the military’s Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) program. Reopened as Shades of Green, it provides discounted prices for rooms and theme park tickets for military personnel of all ranks, as well as their families and guests.
On April 8, 2024, Shades of Green guests received an email alerting them to a planned temporary gas outage scheduled for the upcoming Wednesday, April 10th, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. According to the hotel, this four hour outage may hot water availability in guest rooms.
In addition, the outage will interfere with food & beverage service. To mitigate these disruptions, there will be several temporary changes at the resort. These include the Evergreens Sports Bar serving a limited menu of pizza, hot dogs, hamburgers, salads, and select appetizers and sandwiches, and The Express cafe opening one hour later than normal.
The Java Cafe is scheduled to be open for regular hours and feature its normal menus as of this time.
While this gas outage is scheduled to be temporary, it’s definitely going to make a noticeable difference to anyone staying at Shades of Green later this week.

I would like to see them include a crosswalk to the Polynesian once again after the construction going on in that area. It is GREATLY missed.
