If you’ve been following Disney parks news, then you know that Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is coming soon to Disneyland Park and Magic Kingdom!
The Princess and the Frog-themed ride is replacing Splash Mountain at both Disney World and Disneyland Resort, and construction is well underway on both coasts. As part of the updates, gift shops near the ride will be getting some big changes.
It was announced a little while ago that the stores in Disneyland’s Critter Country would be getting a bit of a Tiana-inspired revamp. The store that is currently The Briar Patch will be turned into Ray’s Berets, and part of Pooh Corner will be transformed into Louis’ Critter Club.
To make way for these updates, Critter Country is temporarily closing starting May 1st. However, it seems like Disney’s getting a little head start on the updates! During our last visit to the park, we noticed that The Briar Patch sign had been removed and instead, a temporary store sign was placed on the construction wall across from the entrance.
It’s likely that Disney is just preparing to put the new shop sign up, but putting a Splash Mountain-themed banner up on the Tiana’s Bayou Adventure construction walls is probably going to cause some confusion for people walking through the park. So far, Disney has been pretty thorough when removing nods to the old attraction, considering its ties to the film Song of the South. The movie has been criticized for its racist themes, so it makes sense that Disney would want to remove mentions of it in the parks.
We’ll continue to keep a lookout for changes until Critter Country closes temporarily at the beginning of May. Currently, most of that section of the park is covered in construction walls, due to the Tiana’s Bayou Adventure project as well as the Haunted Mansion refurbishments next door. You’ll be seeing quite a few walls in Disneyland!

Song of the South did not have racist themes. It portrayed a time when views were different and not acceptable now. The main story was wonderful.
