We go to Disney World every day, and while we are there, we hear some pretty crazy things.
As Disney World experts, we often overhear people make claims about Disney World that are so painfully untrue. While we know that we know more about Disney than the average person, when we hear people be so confident in their incorrect statements about Disney World, we can’t help but raise an eyebrow or laugh a little to ourselves. Here are the top seven things that our reporters have heard people say about Disney World with so much confidence but were ultimately wrong.
Every group has the Disney World planner and historian. These members are key to a successful Disney World day, we tend to think out ourselves as the planner and historian friend. Sometimes, we are walking in the park, and we will hear the historian friend say something completely incorrect about Disney World, and they do not even know they are wrong.
Magic Kingdom and Disneyland are Two Separate Parks
In 1955, Walt Disney was alive for the opening of Disneyland. Disneyland is located in Anaheim, California, and is sometimes nicknamed “Walt’s Magic Kingdom.” The park itself is called Disneyland and not Magic Kingdom.
Magic Kingdom is located in Orlando, Florida, at Disney World. Sadly, Walt never got to see Magic Kingdom finished.
Now that we have a little history out of the way, our reporters often hear people refer to the Magic Kingdom as Disneyland. Disneyland, as mentioned, is across the country. In Disney World, there are four theme parks — Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Hollywood Studios, and Animal Kingdom — none of them with the name Disneyland.
We understand that all the names can be confusing, but in Florida, we have the Magic Kingdom.
Mr. Rogers is in Magic Kingdom?
As we mentioned above, sadly, Walt Disney never got to see Disney World all built out. His brother, Roy Disney, worked to preserve his brother’s legacy and dream. He fought to have Disney World’s official title be Walt Disney World, in honor of his brother. Since Roy worked so hard to see Disney World’s Magic Kingdom be completed, he has a special bench inside of Magic Kingdom.
On Main Street, you can find a bench with a statue of Roy Disney and Minnie Mouse. This is a sweet tribute to Roy Disney, but some people may not know who Roy Disney is.
One of our reporters overheard a family get so excited to take photos with Mr. Rogers from Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood. Mr. Rogers, in this case, was the Roy Disney statue. We are glad that the statue brought them so much joy, too bad it was not who they thought it was.
Universal Orlando and Disney World Are Not the Same
Orlando has so many theme parks and attractions, the two most notable are Disney World and Universal Orlando.
Many people confuse the two, and our reporters often hear people talk about the parks as if they are both owned by Disney.
Some of our resident Cast Member alumni have shared stories about people asking where Harry Potter is in Disney World. These confused people are often let down when they are told that they are at the wrong resort.
If you are planning a trip to Orlando, and want to visit Harry Potter lands and attractions, make sure to plan a day at Universal Orlando as you will not find anything Harry Potter related at any of the four Disney World parks.
There is a Matterhorn at Disney World?
There are many famous Disney mountains. There is Big Thunder Mountain, Space Mountain, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure (previously Splash Mountain), the Matterhorn, and Expedition Everest. While some of these mountains can be found on both coasts in Disney World and Disneyland, two mountains are only found in each coast.
One of our reporters was in Animal Kingdom when they overheard people talking about riding the Matterhorn, which, of course, they were actually referring to Expedition Everest. While these mountains do look somewhat similar, the Matterhorn Bobsleds can only be found in Disneyland in California. Expedition Everest can only be found in Animal Kingdom in Florida.
No More PeopleMover in Disney World?
We are big fans of the PeopleMover in Disney World, and we are sure that people would not be happy if Disney decided to close this iconic and relaxing attraction.
Well, one of our reporters overheard someone talking about how the PeopleMover in Disney World is defunct in front of a moving PeopleMover.
We understand the confusion, as Disneyland’s PeopleMover is defunct, but you can still see parts of the former attraction throughout Tomorrowland. Just because one attraction closes in Disneyland does not mean it is gone in Disney World.
Is it the Happiest Place on Earth or the Most Magical Place on Earth?
You have probably heard of the iconic phrases “Happiest Place on Earth” or “Most Magical Place on Earth” but how could Disney World be both? Well, it’s not!
These two phrases are often mixed up when describing Disney World. Our reporters hear people refer to Disney World as the Happiest Place on Earth, and we have even seen people caption their Disney World Instagram posts with this phrase.
We are here to set the record straight, the Happiest Place on Earth is Disneyland, and the Most Magical Place on Earth is Disney World. Now you know for the next time you need a caption for your Disney World post!
The Monorail Now Goes to Animal Kingdom?
We know Disney World transportation can be confusing. You might ask yourself, can I take the Skyliner here? Or do I take a monorail? Can a boat take me? Should I just take the bus? It can be a lot to figure out your transportation plans.

Our reporters overhear a lot of these conversations, and recently, we overheard someone tell their party that they can take the monorail to Animal Kingdom. This is not true as the monorail only services Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, the Transportation and Ticket Center, Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Spa, and Disney’s Contemporary Resort.

I thought the Happiest Place on Earth was Disneyland Park, not Disneyland Resort; likewise I thought the Most Magical Place on Earth was the Magic Kingdom, not Walt Disney World Resort. Can you clarify?

A friend of mine once told me that she had only ever been to 1 Disney park. When I asked which one, she told me Universal
Needless to say, she was quite shocked to find out that Disney and Universal are NOT the same thing 😂

Hi Wendy! Back when Disneyland Park and Magic Kingdom were the only parks, they were called by those names respectively, but now that both parks have additional parks, it’s all encompassing.

Way back, when WDW first opened, it was known as “The Vacation Kingdom of the World” to distinguish it from “The Happiest Place on Earth”, Disneyland. If I had a dollar for every time I have had to explain this to people, I could afford another trip to WDW.
