Disney World has so many great food and drink options!
Sometimes, we get too attached, and when Disney decides to change the menu, sometimes our favorite dishes, drinks, and snacks are replaced or just flat-out taken off the menu! We find this to be quite tragic, so today, we are mourning the losses of some of our favorite menu items.
While we’re still trying to understand why Disney removes some of our beloved items, we want to acknowledge that there are still numerous options available. Despite the loss of these eight drinks, snacks, and dishes, Disney World continues to offer a wide array of quick service, table service, and snack options.
Fried Herb & Garlic Cheese at 50’s Prime Time Cafe
The Fried Herb & Garlic Cheese was an appetizer at 50’s Prime Time Cafe, and we loved it! This dish was perfect, with a crispy crust that complimented the smooth herbaceous cheese. This was our favorite appetizer here. We thought our only wish was for this dish to be bigger, but now we are just wishing for it to return to the menu!
This is not the first time that the Fried Herb & Garlic Cheese was taken off the menu, so we are staying hopeful that it will be on the menu again someday soon!
Citrus Swirl
Wait, an ICONIC Magic Kingdom snack is MIA? Yep! You heard that right! We recently went by Sunshine Tree Terrace, and the Citrus Swirl was gone!
We know that this snack has had its issues before and sometimes gets taken off the menu, but a Cast Member told us that it is gone for good. We are not ready to accept this and hope that the Citrus Swirl makes its triumphant return like it always does.
Refillable Mimosas at Steakhouse 71
We loved going to Steakhouse 71 for breakfast over at Disney’s Contemporary Resort. The food here is so good, and one perk of breakfast here was the refillable mimosas.
Well, sadly, they are no longer being offered. For $19, you used to be able to get refillable mimosas made with Mas Fi Cava Brut Sparkling Wine and orange juice. While we still will dine here without this drink option, we can’t say we aren’t just a little bummed out that it is no longer on the menu.
Loaded Burnt End Fries
This one hit hard as we loved to get the Loaded Burnt End Fries as a sharable meal or snack over at Regal Eagle Smokehouse in EPCOT.
These fries were a considerable portion and came with seasoned french fries with burnt ends, macaroni & cheese, and beer-battered onion rings. This was the perfect thing to share, and it was super filling. Cast Members tell us the dish was “invented” to use up leftover brisket at the restaurant, and they’ve gotten more efficient at estimating how much they’ll need — so they just don’t have the leftovers these days! We also wonder if Disney is against having onion rings on dishes, as this next dish that disappeared also had onion rings.
Onion Rings at Flame Tree Barbecue
If we ever needed a quick savory snack from Animal Kingdom, we always loved to head to Flame Tree Barbecue to pick up an order of onion rings.
We first noticed this change when we ordered the Baked Macaroni & Cheese with Pulled Pork. This dish comes with baked macaroni & cheese topped with smoked pulled pork, crispy onions, and coleslaw. Now, before, it was topped with onion rings instead of crispy onions. We don’t love this change, but we can get over it.
What we don’t love is that it seems there are no more onion rings at Flame Tree Barbecue. While we understand that the Baked Macaroni & Cheese with Pulled Pork has changed, we still wish we could snack on a side of onion rings.
Beignets in Magic Kingdom
While these were not our favorite, Magic Kingdom finally got beignets! These were a specialty offering during the Celebrate Soulfully celebration and were called Tiana’s Famous Beignets. We found these to have more of a croissant texture, but it was still cool to be able to get this treat in the park!
Before, the only place to get beignets was at Port Orleans French Quarter, where they served the famous Mickey Beignets. With the beignets gone in Magic Kingdom, Port Orleans French Quarter is once again the only place where you can find beignets.
We hope that with the opening of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, Disney will be able to bring the delicious Mickey Beignets to the Magic Kingdom. Over at Disneyland, you can pick up Mickey Beignets at the Mint Julep Bar, which shares the same roof as Tiana’s Palace. We hope Disney World can have something similar.
Sweet Potato Pie and Fried Green Tomato BLT Sandwich at Pecos Bill Tall Tale Cafe
Just like the beignets in Magic Kingdom, the Sweet Potato Pie and Fried Green Tomato BLT Sandwich were limited-time offerings as part of the Celebrate Soulfully Celebration. While we know these were a limited offering, we think they should become permanent at Pecos Bill Tall Tale Cafe!
We really loved these offerings, especially the Fried Green Tomato BLT Sandwich. This sandwich had fried green tomatoes with lettuce, bacon, and bacon-pimento spread served with house-made chips. The sandwich was also lightly buttered and toasted. Our team’s pickiest eater loved this sandwich!
As for the Sweet Potato Pie, it was topped with toasted marshmallow cream and candied pecans. We liked that this pie was creamy and had a good cinnamon taste. It could even be split between two people!
We know that limited-time offerings have to come and go, or else they would not be limited, but the Pecos Bill menu could use some more all-star options, and we wish these two could have become permanent menu items.
Chicken Guy! Sauces
We are still having a tough time coping with this loss. Back in December of last year, Chicken Guy! narrowed down its sauce offerings. While we know this happened in 2023, it was almost 2024, and we are still thinking about the sauces that were taken from us.
Before this change, you could choose from 22 sauces, and now there are only 10 sauces along with a rotational limited sauce.
Not only were sauces taken from us, but so were a few of the Chicken Guy! salads. We loved being able to get the Caesar Salad with crispy chicken and a side of fries! For now, we guess we will have to head over to The Polite Pig to get our Caesar Salad with crispy chicken and fries.
As the title says, these are the only menu tragedies so far, and we are only four months into 2024. We hope that Disney keeps our other favorite snacks, drinks, and dishes on the menus across the resort.
