What, Exactly, Is “Chewie Mode” in Disney World and How Do You Do It?

We bet you’ve spent a lot of time hanging out in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. You’ve probably taken a spin on Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run once or twice (or maybe a lot more). But did you know that you could access a special mode on that ride that could change the entire experience?

Yes, there is a special, SECRET mode that includes the galaxy’s most famous Wookiee on the Millennium Falcon, and we’re going to tell you how to get it. Usually, the voice guiding you while you’re inside the Millennium Falcon’s cockpit is Hondo Ohnaka. However, if you get the special “Chewie mode,” you can get Chewbacca yelling at you and your crew instead (which, in our opinion is WAY better).

You want Chewie mode on the Millennium Falcon

So you’ll need to do EXACTLY what we tell you to get Chewie’s voice in the cockpit. You’ll need a crew of six team members. Before the ride starts, do NOT activate your position right away. Instead, have the left and right pilots push their controls to the far left or right and far up or down. Once the pilots have done that, they should push their activation button.

Let’s fly the Millennium Falcon!

The engineers and gunners sitting behind the pilots need to hit one of the white buttons on their console BEFORE hitting the orange activation button. Once Cast Members give the clear to launch, you’ll start hearing Chewbacca yell at you throughout the entirety of the ride. PRICELESS! But everyone will need to play their part to make this mode work.
