BIG DOIN’S, y’all! We got another little perk back in Disney World, but you’ll need to trade some of your precious vacation time to get it!
So, you know how Disney offers the Disney Vacation Club, which is basically Disney’s version of a timeshare program? Well, a perk that we haven’t seen in several years is BACK for anyone interested in taking a tour of the DVC “show rooms” in Disney World!
Here’s a little background on DVC for ya, just in case you aren’t familiar with the whole sitch. If you wanna buy in, you purchase an annual allotment of points (that renews each year) to a specific Disney resort, and along with it you get special benefits like exclusive lounges in the parks, special events, and discounts. DVC resorts span the globe from Disney World to Disneyland to Hawaii and more.
A DVC membership can be great, but with annual fees, small print, and lots of pros and cons, there is certainly a lot that goes into making such a big investment. And if you want to learn a little more about it, then Disney has brought back a little incentive for ya that hasn’t been around in quite a while — gift cards for taking a tour!
There are several DVC sales kiosks all over Disney World, and when we visited one recently, a Cast Member mentioned that you may be eligible to receive a $50 Disney gift card (per party) for taking a DVC sales tour. Now you may also receive an email offer for a larger gift card if you tour during your stay — it just depends on which offer you receive. To be eligible, you must be staying at a Disney World resort hotel other than the Swan, Dolphin, or Swan Reserve.
(We also had a reader respond to this article letting us know that he and his daughter received a $200 gift card after their DVC tour last month, so you may be eligible for more? Thanks for letting us know, Kevin!)
Current DVC members are not eligible for the $50 gift card. However, if you are a current member and interested in a tour, a separate one is offered for you — you just don’t get the prize at the end (sorry)!
So, if you’re interested at all in DVC and have a little extra time in your vacay to hand over to the sales rep, a $50 gift card prize could be in your future. Plus, you can get some great information on a DVC membership if you are considering one anyway. (You can also check out our entire Disney Vacation Club page for lots of great details!) The Cast Member did not say how many times you can do the tours for the gift cards.
Just a reminder that the gift cards are given out per party, not per person, but it’s still $50 to spend however you like at any Disney location! It has been many years since Disney has given out “prizes” for taking their DVC tours, so this is an exciting little perk that has just recently returned. We hope you enjoy your tour, if you choose to check it out!

My sister and I were just at WDW. She tried to do the tour to get the gift card, but because I am a DVC member and the reservation was in my name, she did not qualify. So that is a rule to get the gift: you cannot be staying under the reservation of a DVC member, even if it is not booked on points (ours was booked as a package.)

All I got was a bowl of ice cream when I bought dvc

Only $50? Last week it was $200.

Loved these tours when they gave you a pile of fastpasses

Nice that Disney brought back a
Perk! A lost perk that Disney should
bring back : The Free Merers Magical Express to and from Mco
to the Disney on site resorts!

Interesting, when I was there a few weeks ago it was a $200 gift card which was worth taking time away from my family vacation for but not sure $50 would be enough incentive for me anyway
Hersey says
We got ice cream sundaes back in 1994 😉

At over $200 per point, minimum of 150 points, DVC is no longer being sold to the average person. Much better off using a reputable company dealing in the second hand market, if you can afford that. As far as perks, really what perks are left other then 10%, maybe 20%, at restaurants. 20% off merchandise you get with either the Disney visa card or annual pass.

We got fast passes in 2018.
Matt says
We were there this weekend and the $200 promotion was still going on: about 30 minutes for $200
Qualifications
Can’t be an existing member
Must be 18 years old
Can’t be a cast member or relative
Must be staying in a DVC resort at time of presentation. Only 1 gift card per reservation.
Our sons did it together and enjoyed it. Received the gift card immediately and went on over to Disney Springs for some shopping fun!

Matt – we met all the criteria except staying in a DVC property (we were in Pop). No one mentioned that one, gulp. Went to the presentation yesterday, haven’t seen our gift cards yet today, 20 hrs later. They said it can take 48 hrs to hit. It will be interesting if we never see it and no one bothered to mention that…

I got an email saying I would get a “gift” with a minimum $8 value. But I’m only stay at all star resort.

We got the sundaes also in 1995 at Old Key West, but we also got park passes for our entire stay when booking with points until 2000. So if we rented on one bedroom that slept four we got two free daily passes to any of the theme parks for our length of stay. The 3 bedroom house slept 12; so we got 6 passes for entire stay. We bought quite a few points back then. It was only 62.50 per point in 1995.

We did a tour at the Riveria the week of 5/13 and received a $200.00 gift card, it was a very nice surprise & unexpected. We were staying at Port Orleans Riverside for this trip.

We want to do DVC but we’ve bought timeshares before from other places and found it wasn’t worth it. I’m a teacher so we can only go when I am on break (summer, Thanksgiving, Christmas) and I know that DVC would be unavailable those times unless we book years in advance. My wife does want to get the minimum points though.
We did a tour our first trip back in ’09 or ’10 and got free ice cream. The last time they did a tour, they didn’t get anything.
Laurel Lane says
Is it really a perk when the entire purpose is to make you spend money on a mortgage? This is all for their benefit, not yours. A ‘perk’ in my opinion is when the customer gets things free and management gets zip.
Erica says
I went through the whole spiel with my mom when we went in 2018. They offered both of us a $50 gift card. Still waiting on it 😅
Christine M ViPond says
We love our DVC we have two, and use them to the maximum benefits. Since we go often, it is much cheaper than paying rack rates. Can I stay somewhere else cheaper? sure. But being on property makes all the difference to our magical vacation
Beth M says
We bought resale points at Hilton Head in 2008 before there were restrictions on buying resale. We paid about $35K for those points. We have made our money back so many times, even with yearly maintenance fees. It’s basically like pre-paying for future Disney trips, and the maintenance fees cost less per year than one week at a Value resort. We go 5 to 6 times a year on those points, and we stay in studios or villas that are in the deluxe category. We paid cash for our points, so no interest on our purchase, either. It made so much sense for our family of 6, and now that the kids are all adults they can use the points to go with their friends or SOs.

I got the $200 gift card last month and was told you are only eligible if you did not do a tour previously (if you are not in the system as having done a tour).
