There are so many airlines to choose from when planning your Disney World vacation. One popular airline, which is also one of the largest airlines at Orlando International Airport, is Southwest Airlines. We love their checked bag allowance and their special change and cancellation policy. However, we also know the airline has had some struggles recently.
Southwest Airlines has had its fair share of problems, including mass cancellations that occurred in December 2022 and, more recently, delaying over 50% of their flights at the Orlando International Airport on March 9th, 2024. Well, if you have been affected by a Southwest Airlines delay or cancelation, listen up!
According to The Washington Post, Southwest Airlines has recently launched a new compensation fund for fliers. This compensation fund became available on April 16th, 2024, as a result of the December 2022 challenges. The fund is a part of the $140 million settlement with the Transporation Department.
This fund will provide inconvenienced travelers with a $75 Southwest LUV voucher. You will only be able to request this voucher if the issues were within Southwest’s control and you experienced a lengthy delay. On domestic flights, the passenger must have arrived at their final destination at least three hours after the scheduled arrival time. For international flights, it must be at least six hours after the scheduled time. The delay must have been within Southwest Airlines’ control, such as a mechanical problem.
Passengers must go online to submit a request for the voucher within one year of the delayed or canceled flight. Southwest Airlines is planning to respond to requests within 30 days. They are anticipating that this compensation fund will run for three years. Be sure to head online to request your $75 if you have experienced a delay or cancelation that was within Southwest Airlines’ control recently.

Just went through the process. SWA processed our claim swiftly, within 1 week. They granted my family each, $100 vouchers. We were delayed 5 hours. It was a nice surprise! I also asked for meal and transportation reimbursement. They agreed as long as I had receipts. For that, they are sending me a check.
