ANOTHER streaming bundle is coming.
In recent months, several streaming services, including Disney+, have announced bundle deals — sometimes teamed with specific cellular companies. Some people are drawing comparisons between these new streaming combinations and cable television. Now, some of the biggest streamers are teaming up for a bundle with one of the world’s biggest cable companies.
On May 14th, Comcast announced that they are launching a new three-way bundle combining their in-house Peacock service with Netflix and Apple TV+. This bundle will be available to all Comcast broadband, TV, and mobile customers (Hollywood Reporter).
According to Comcast CEO Brian Roberts, the new bundle of the three services — which is being called Streamsaver — will “come at a vastly reduced price to anything in the market today.” Roberts went on to say of the offer, “We’ve been bundling video successfully and creatively for 60 years. And so this is the latest iteration of that and I think will be a pretty compelling package.”
The announcement of Streamsaver comes just weeks before Peacock’s standalone service will see price increases across the board. Peacock Premium (with ads) will increase by $2 to $7.99 per month and Peacock Premium Plus (mostly ad-free) will increase $2 to $13.99 per month.
Peacock, Netflix, and Apple TV+ teaming up may be the most noteworthy yet of the steaming bundling efforts, thanks to the involvement of arguably the best-known streamer (Netflix) and the one with the most financial might behind it (Apple). Stay tuned to DFB for more television industry updates.
