I used to be a Disney World Cast Member, and I became an EXPERT when it comes to sweet treats.
Yes, that’s right. If you’re new around here, my name is Kayleigh, and I used to work at the Haunted Mansion at Disney World. I always tell people that writing for the iconic Disney Food Blog is the best job I’ve ever had, but let’s be honest. It’s a tie between this job and my time at the Mansion. I was a Disney College Program participant in the fall of 2022, so I spend a LOT of my time missing Disney World and haunting the halls of the Spooky Haus. That being said, I LOVE to yap about my Cast Member days. But today’s yap fest has nothing to do with the Mansion, and EVERYTHING to do with sweet treats.
I know what you’re thinking. What does a Haunted Mansion Maid know about sweet treats? Well, before a lot of my shifts, I visited Magic Kingdom and had to frequent the iconic Main Street Confectionery. This is Magic Kingdom’s hub for all things sweet and delicious. You can find things ranging from Skittles and M&Ms to popcorn mixes and gourmet Rice Krispie treats.
Today, we’re here to chat about treats you should NEVER get while visiting the Confectionery. While I’d never truly pass up on a sweet treat, there are better options as opposed to the ones you might try to snag while you’re in a hurry and just passing through the shop. You ready?
I would personally never get ANY of the sweet treats that are pre-packaged and sitting on shelves in the Confectionery! While some treats are always going to come pre-packaged, like Cotton Candy, gummy candy, and the Mars-Wrigley candy options that you can buy at the shop, there are other options that you can get both pre-packaged and from the Cast Members.
For example, when you walk into the Confectionery, you’ll see all sorts of wrapped crisped rice treats, candy apples, chocolate-covered marshmallows, and even popcorn mixes. However, I’d recommend skipping those and heading over to the counter to order a fresher one from a Cast Member!
You’ll visit a Cast Member at the counter in the center of the shop, tell them what you want based on the treats you’ll see in the casing, and then they’ll give you a slip to give the Cast Member at the checkout counter. You’ll then pay and be handed a fresh treat of your choosing! We totally rave about the peanut butter cookie pie that you can grab here.
Instead of a prepackaged popcorn mix, we recommend heading to the back of the shop to the Kernel Kitchen where you can opt for a seasonal mix that’s made fresh in front of you — or customize your own! There are so many combinations that you can create and it’s one of our favorite things to do in Magic Kingdom.
Of course, the pre-packaged treats don’t taste bad at all. However, if you have the chance, wait it out and snag something that’s just a little bit more fresh. It sometimes makes all the difference!
We’ll be sure to keep you up to date with more Disney news, so make sure to follow along so that you’re always in the loop and never miss a thing.

We were just there July 7-14. I was so disappointed! There aren’t any handmade chocolates in the case anymore! Apples, cupcakes and flavorless cookies. I bought the skittles truffles – they were terrible! This was one of the best parts of a busy park day. What is happening?
