Disney has several exclusive clubs and memberships that you can be part of that come with special perks.
You can be a member of Disney Vacation Club, D23, be an Annual Passholder, Magic Key holder, or even be part of Club 33. Club 33 is the private club that has roots in Disneyland. You must have a membership to the club (which is very exclusive) or be invited to visit the location near Pirates of the Caribbean at New Orleans Square. According to D23 and The Walt Disney Archives, the club gets its name from its address — 33 Royal Street. There’s a lot of mystery and allure surrounding Club 33, and it seems Disney plans to use that concept for its next movie!
Because of how private and exclusive Club 33 is, there has always been a lot of intrigue and secrecy around it. It started in 1967 as a dining location where Disney hosted celebrities, dignitaries, and friends. Now it is the elite club that all of us Disney fans hope to one day see the inside of. While the main dining area is in Disneyland, there are outposts in Disney World and Tokyo Disneyland.
Now, it turns out that the club located near Pirates of the Caribbean in Disneyland (which spurred the first park-to-movie idea) is set to become a movie!
According to The Hollywood Reporter, “the story centers on Kim, a young aspiring detective living in present-day New York, who receives a mysterious invite to the highly secretive Club 33. In this case, it’s a magical and exclusive dining club that exists outside of time and space. The club’s members are the greatest and most iconic members from the past: geniuses, royalty, and history-makers. When a murder is committed on the premises, the patrons look to Kim to solve it.”
Darren Lemke has been asked to create the script for the new movie. Lemke is known for work on Goosebumps and Shazam!. 21 Laps Entertainment will be the production effort behind the fantasy world of Club 33, with Shawn Levy, Dan Levine, and Dan Cohen heading the effort. We will likely notice similarities in tone and vibe of this movie to movies like Clue and Night at the Museum.
Other park-to-movie concepts that Disney has produced or is working on include Pirates of the Caribbean, Jungle Cruise, Tomorrowland, Haunted Mansion (twice), and the upcoming Space Mountain movie. We’ll be very interested in learning more details about this movie. A mystery concept for a movie about Club 33 does sound like a neat concept.

I thought it got its name from Walt Disney – he named it for the (very!) brave first 33 investors who went against conventional wisdom to help him make his (& our?) dream come true. Or, maybe this is urban legend?
